=The first round of our sitcom showdown has ended and, thanks to your voting, the options have been narrowed down quite a bit.
For this round, we’ve taken the top vote-getters from each of our last polls and mixed them up with the others in their own decade. We’re using decades for these early rounds because, with so many great shows, we feel it’s the best apples-to-apples comparison — programs that were produced in the same general timeframe and had to compete for the same viewers.
In round three, we’ll uncover the best shows by decade and then pit them against one another until we have the show that you think is the greatest sitcom in TV history.
You can vote only once for each poll but don’t worry, we’ll start the next round of voting on Monday, April 26th. Think the choices in this round are tough? It’s only going to get worse!
This round is now completed. Please move on to round three!

What do you think? Which show do you think will be the big winner? Any predictions?
The Honeymooners…..the classic 39 and All In The Family are the two BEST sitcoms ever. 1A and 1B….
Is the only show with people of color is ths Crosby Show.
that 70’s show
where’s that 70’s show???????????????
@bubcis It got eliminated in the first round. Not enough people voted for it.
You’ve mad this really hard on me for the 2000s. I love HIMYM, Scrubs, Arrested Development, and The Office. I’m going to go with Arrested Development, a show that ended well before its time given its brilliance.
Overall I wish that it was Arrested, but I’m going to have to say either I Love Lucy or Friends will take the crown
Well the Beverly Hillbillies didn’t make it but a lot of the newer shows are still around. I don’t have an opinion on most of these polls and thus didn’t vote in them, but I will check back to see who ends up making it. Also, are you going to do a best mystery/drama show poll too? That could be interesting as well.
I think Seinfeldwill win
I really don’t like the grouping in some instances, placing “The Simpsons” in the 2000s is just wrong considering the show started in 1989. Even worse is the fact that it has declined greatly since 2000, and it’s best years were the early 90s. In the context of its category I had to go with Family Guy simply because 2000s Simpsons episodes are subpar. I really think once the results are in, the groups should be paired down to the top two votegetters in each category and leave it at that. I’d be interested to know who comes out on… Read more »
@DocJohnson: Personally, I’d suggest making your selections based on the sitcoms as a whole. Granted, the Simpsons is a special case but it didn’t occur to me to judge them by the episodes that were released during a particular decade. I mean, Happy Days aired in both the 1970s and 1980s but mostly the 70s. If you base your choice on only the 1970s episodes, I think most people would rate those a lot higher than the later ones. Grouping by decades was the best way we could find to do an apples-to-apples comparison — they were created around the… Read more »
The greatest sitcom of all times had to be “SOAP” A lot of now famous sitcom folks were in it, but, it may have been over the average sitcom fan’s head.
I agree, it was a hoot! And yes, over a lot of people’s heads, It was not on as long as others becauseof that, and many people voting here were not even born by the time it left the air. In general I have never watched many sitcoms. But in the 80’s we had M.A.S.H., Cheers, The Cosby Show, and several others that were guaranteed to keep you laughing… There are only 3 sitcoms that I like right now. I was addicted to Monk and now he’s in reruns on Sleuth, for which I am very grateful. Thank heaven for… Read more »
We are not choosing the best sitcom here, but the most popular. I am pretty sure that the winner will be:
– quite a new show, because more people will still remember it
– a show that was really popular at the time (and still is)
– a show that lasted a really long time
– an american show
My guess is that the winner will be either Friends or Seinfeld. I would be really surprised if the winner was from the eighties or earlier. I would pick Fawlty Towers.
Frasier, hands down.
best over all big bang theory
It depends on the demographics of the voters but I’ll bet on I Love Lucy
