TV show description:
This irreverent TV show is narrated in the first-person voice of the lead character’s blog posts
Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards) is an invisible 15-year-old high school student. She’s wise beyond her years and has an irreverent, optimistic outlook on life but really wants to fit in. Jenna loses her virginity with the boy of her dreams at summer camp and he’s then too embarrassed to be seen with her.
She receives a mysterious “care-frontation” letter and then gets in an accident. Due to her reaction and the timing, everyone believes that it was a failed suicide attempt. Jenna soon starts to realize that this mistake might actually be her ticket to social visibility.
Despite being popular, athletic, and handsome, Matty McKibben (Beau Mirchoff) is deeply insecure. He has sex with Jenna in a supply closet at summer camp and doesn’t want anyone to know. As a result,he and Jenna embark on a secret on-again/off-again relationship.
Matty’s best friends with Jake Rosati (Brett Davern), the class president who’s popular, smart, and outgoing. He dates Lissa (Greer Grammer), a girl who’s ditzy and best friends with Sadie Saxton (Molly Tarlov). Sadie is the most popular girl in school thanks to her parents’ money. She’s a bit overweight and is Jenna’s nemesis.
Jenna’s best friends are Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed) and Ming Huang (Jessica Lu). Tamara’s always there to pick Jenna up when she needs it and has a crush on bandmate Ricky Schwartz (Matthew Fahey). Ming is a down-to-earth indie-style teenager with strict Chinese parents.
Jenna’s mother is Lacey Hamilton (Nikki DeLoach), a woman who’s clueless about raising a child and a superficial plastic surgery fanatic. She had Jenna as a teenager and used her college funds to get breast implants instead. Father Kevin Hamilton (Mike Faiola) is a more responsible parent and is caring and supportive to his daughter.
Valerie Marks (Desi Lydic) is one of the school counsellors and clearly has her own problems. She’s a lonely person who tries too hard to be like the teenagers she is there to help.
