There won’t be any more Ascension, at least on Syfy. The cable channel has told Deadline that, “We were very happy with Ascension as an event series, but with so much high profile development in the works, we have decided not to pursue a full series.”
Airing in December 2014, Ascension follows an alternate reality in which, in 1963, President Kennedy and the government sent 600 volunteers (men, women, and children) into space on a century-long voyage aboard a self-sustaining generation ship. The cast includes Tricia Helfer, Gil Bellows, Brian Van Holt, Andrea Roth, Brandon P. Bell, Jacqueline Byers, Tiffany Lonsdale, and P.J. Boudousqué.
When Syfy ordered the six hour episodes of Ascension last year, the plan was to make it a regular series if the mini-series was successful enough — ala Battlestar Galactica. The ratings were okay but certainly nothing to write home about.
It’s unclear if the producers will try to find a home for Ascension elsewhere.
What do you think? Did you like the Ascension series? Would you have watched it as a regular weekly TV show?
It’s interesting to see Hollywood cancel so many good shows and always keep the trash on air. And they wonder why nobody watches TV anymore.
Year, I’m writing this from Portugal in 2024 and I’m disapointed to know this great show was cancelled…. Great script, great cenarios, great cast a shame that will not continue… even with this Gault last scene that would prepare for a great continuation of it…. a shame…
Great show too bad it had a premature end. Seems the way with good quality scifi today.
They cancelled this show years ago .Most clever Science Fiction show to come around in years. Great writing . Shame …
Enjoyed the show..
Very much.. definitely would watch more…..even more interesting as it seems Gault has been ”sent” to ( presumably) Proxima….
Need to see what happens next….very dissapointed if no more episodes..
Just finished it tonight, if they didn’t get the ratings it because they didn’t plug the show. Great show, disappointed no new episodes
