60 Minutes: Donald Trump Offered ‘Shifting Explanations’ for Cancelling Interview — Watch Scathing Video
60 Minutes gave viewers a rare behind-the-scenes look during Monday’s election special, offering illuminating new details about former President Donald Trump‘s decision to back out of his scheduled interview, leaving Vice President Kamala Harris to fly solo.
“It’s been a tradition for more than half a century that the major party candidates for president sit down with 60 Minutes in October,” Scott Pelley told viewers at the top of the broadcast. “In 1968, it was Richard Nixon and Hubert Humphrey. This year, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump accepted our invitation. Unfortunately, last week, Trump canceled.”
As Pelley explained, 60 Minutes was told that Trump’s interview would be conducted on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Mar-a-Lago. A secondary interview at the site of Trump’s assassination attempt was also reportedly being arranged at the behest of Trump’s team. Pelley laid out a detailed timeline of interactions between 60 Minutes and Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director.
So, why did Trump ultimately back out of the interview? “The campaign offered shifting explanations,” Pelley said. “First, it complained that we would fact-check the interview. We fact-check every story. Later, Trump said he needed an apology for his interview in 2020. Trump claims correspondent Lesley Stahl said in that interview that Hunter Biden’s controversial laptop came from Russia. She never said that.”
“Trump has said his opponent doesn’t do interviews because she can’t handle them,” Pelley continued. “He had previously declined another debate with Harris, so tonight may have been the largest audience for the candidates between now and Election Day.”

Meanwhile, your boy just went ghost on a sitdown that has occurred since the 1960s and flat-out refused a second debate with Harris after he got his rotund and rapidly-balding self in front of millions to continue pushing lies about Haitian immigrants and “nine-month abortions” while alleged “intelligent” billionaires perform cheerleading routines for his pleasure. Dude, you ain’t got a pot to p*ss in nor a window to throw it out of in this comment section. This is a TV news site. I don’t think it’s ever covered that non TV event, and there are plenty of news articles on it on news sites. 60 Minutes and this special ARE television. Of course they are covering it more on a TV site. They also covered debates airing on TV, Celebrity Apprentice and the impressions on SNL. They do not cover all areas of politics.
An interview that the candidate has to answer questions and lay out a policy for the nation is VERY VERY VERY different from a dinner. Do I think that Harris should uphold norms and go to the Al Smith dinner? Yes. Without a question she should go. My point is that a dinner/roast is not the same as an interview.
And why should a Presidential candidate refuse an interview because of fact checking?

They obsess over “undecided” voters who whine that Harris doesn’t have specific policies when she has put out an 80+ page policy paper. Meanwhile Trump’s only policies are tariffs, drilling (U.S. energy production is already at an all time high, btw), tax cuts for the wealthy, and weaponizing the Justice Department against his enemies. Border crossings are also way lower under Biden/Harris than under Trump; crime too. The whole thing should be no contest but the media turns it into a horse race to boost ratings and online engagement. It’s sick.
They don’t need to comment when they run his full statements in all their context, unlike the left leaning media, showing singular out of context snippets. Because they didn’t do there so called fact checking on her doesn’t mean she was being truthful. One thing is right, it isn’t the 50s anymore when you could trust the journalist on tv, to give you unbiased facts and let you decide on your own. We shouldn’t know the journalists opinions. As for the debates, the point of a moderator is to ask questions, keep track of the time and move the process along, not “fact-check” which was proven the next day, the moderators got it wrong, but guess what wasn’t reported on in mainstream media. 1. No one who supports Trump and thinks Kamala Harris talks in word salad is living in reality. Whether or not you like what she’s saying, she speaks in full sentences, unlike the idiot you worship.
2. She is not in charge of the border. She was asked by the president to work with other countries to try to address the root cause of mass migration. Unfortunately she can’t unilaterally fix the safety and economies of other countries which drive people to try to find a better life. Her showing up at the border would take up resources that don’t need to be wasted.
3. The federal response to Helene was immediate. Even the Republican governors of the affected states have said that they received immediate help. Trump and Fox are liars, full stop.
4. If the money runs out blame Republicans. Congress controls the wallet. That is literally how our government works. Mike Johnson refuses to call the House back for a special session to approve more money until after the election. Republicans are playing political games with people’s lives.
5. The presence of high level government officials like president and vice president take up massive amounts of resources to facilitate. They were all asked not to come until local officials said they wouldn’t be a disruption. Kamala listened, Trump showed up anyway because he doesn’t care about anyone but himself.
