Buck Comes Out as Bisexual (9-1-1)
For the better part of six seasons, 9-1-1 fans have waited for (but never actually expected) firefighter Evan Buckley to lean into his obvious bisexual undertones — so imagine their pleasant surprise, nay elation, when Buck began a relationship with fellow first responder Tommy Kinard (played by Lou Ferrigno Jr.) in the show’s inaugural season on ABC. In showrunner Tim Minear’s words, Buck has had a “merry-go-round of different love interests,” but this one might just be our favorite.
And for any so-called fans who are unhappy about his character’s journey, Oliver Stark had this message to share: “If one other character finding a new facet to his sexuality and [realizing] his bisexuality is your deal breaker — I fear you’ve missed the entire point of the show.” — Andy Swift
Will there ever be a Heterosexual Pride month?
Umm… Cough
Every month that isnt June is heterosexual month sh.
Yes? It’s called every single month of the year.
.
Thanks for playing.
Has anyone ever been arrested or beaten for the sole reason they were heterosexual? No? Then why do you feel like you need anything special to celebrate when you can live your het life in front of others without consequence every single day of the year?
You get started on that. Let us know how that turns out.
Is there ever going to be a pride thread without some knucklehead asking this stupid question, instead of just scrolling on to anything else?
THIS is why Pride month exists and is STILL necessary.
I bet you are the type to ask if there is going to be a White People Month, during Black History Month.
Love seeing my favorite ships: Tevan/BuckTommy, Choni, Marina: So much content over the past few months. Happy Pride y’all.
yoooo you used the wrong pronouns for Nemo / the Eurovision part
What about Asher winning The Voice?
This definitely should be on the list!
Surprise The Chi isn’t on here. There are currently 7 LGBTQ+ relationships on there. 2 revealed just this season alone.
Very happy to see Buck and Tommy included. So happy 9-1-1 truly went there with Buck’s character. It made perfect sense.
I loved both the Buck and Tommy and Hen and Karen storylines from 9-1-1! Can’t wait to see more of both couples next season.
Not sure if this counts but a certain doctor and a roguish rogue should be on this list.
Good catch! The staff brainstorm had wrapped up before that episode aired. Added. –Mgmt.
Some you missed:
Eric comes out in his church – and his mother proudly supports him (Sex Education)

The vampires help throw a Pride Parade (What We Do In the Shadows)

A crossover means more than one bisexual aboard the ship when Lower Decks (& Beckett Mariner) cross over to Strange New Worlds (& Christine Chapel)
Bisexual triangles and queer awakenings in the newest season of Heartbreak High
I haven’t seen it yet but I’ve also heard wonderful things about the new UK series Lost Boys & Fairies
Red, White, & Royal Blue
Also it released late last June so am not sure if it was included in anything then, but the series Glamorous (also out last June on Netflix, Nimona).
And I’m sure I’m still missing plenty
One of my favorite things about this past season of “Ghosts” was the episode with Isaac’s bachelor party – not only did I like that we got to see something like that for a gay character on network TV, but I also like that all of the other male ghosts were fully on board with this party for Isaac and none of them showed any sort of discomfort at watching a man dance for another man. They were just as into the stripper as Isaac was, there weren’t any gay panic moments or anything like that. Plus, the scene was just really fun and entertaining in and of tiself :D.
.
And yeah, as sad as I was about what happened with Isaac and Nigel in the finale, I do appreciate the acknowledgement that Isaac’s whole coming out journey has only just truly begun, and that there’s still more for him to figure out and understand about himself in that way.
.
As for the throuple, I kind of wish that had lasted a little longer, just ’cause it would’ve been fun to see where the characters could’ve gone with that, but still, yes, I do appreciate that the show acknowledges that polyamory is a part of Flower’s backstory and doesn’t shame her for it.
I agree completely on all counts!
One more I just remembered is the episode of So Help Me Todd where his brother hires him to try to figure out if a judge is gay (ahead of a potential higher appointment as he tries to avoid potential political blowback for his boss) and ultimately decides it does not matter.
I just rewatched this episode for the 5th time – one of SHMT’s very best scripts of the entire series. Such gentle and profound performances. 🪻
I‘m so disappointed that 911 made Tommy Buck‘s date (i don’t believe that they are actually in a relationship). Tommy is such an awful character and him and Buck they just don’t click. I’m not going to lie his fans are pure CANCER they cannot stop hating on Eddie because they are somehow scared of his character and they (and of course the flat character of Tommy) are my main reason why the bi Buck storyline was a total letdown. I hope Tommy gets written out of the show.
I’m surprised no one mentioned Asher from the Good Doctor!
I’d like to mention Frenchie and Colin from The Boys.
Umm what about Ricky & Cesar an openly gay couple winning the latest season of the Amazing Race?
Or how about how David Tennant attended a convention in May and was asked by a fan about his relationship with masculinity and femininity & how he said people should be able to be themselves and to “f— off & let people be.” Bless that man.
I don’t think they would include a convention moment but great call on Ricky & Cesar … and as I said in my last comment that got deleted for some reason even though I was on topic talking about a beautiful queer moment that happened on tonight’s Tony Awards, I also second the last couple comments about Good Doctor and The Boys.
How did you leave out Interview With The Vampire where all the lead characters are queer???
bbc’s ‘i kissed a girl’, on i player
Hi! About Doctor Who second same gender kiss, well, way after Jack kissed 10, 11th doc loooooooove kissing everyone on the lips, including Rory.
On Our Flag Means Death had Stead and Blackbeard get together. They end the show with them moving to their own little island and wanting to open up a business together.
They also had a lesbian pirate couple played by Minnie Driver and Rachel House.
