It wouldn’t be Independence Day without A Capitol Fourth.
PBS‘ 44th annual salute to America — which you can stream above — will air live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol at 8/7c.
The show will open with a performance by returning host Alfonso Ribeiro and Dancing With the Stars choreographer Britt Stewart. That will be followed by a tribute to Team USA (hosted by Shawn Johnson East); a celebration of Motown’s 65th anniversary, featuring a performance by Smokey Robinson; a salute to American military heroes past and present, featuring an appearance by an original “Rosie the Riveter,” Mae Krier; and a performance of George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” by Chloe Flower, which will mark the song’s 100th anniversary.
Additional performers include Fantasia, Darren Criss, Sheila E., Fitz & Noelle from Fitz and The Tantrums, Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary, Loren Allred, and Jack Everly and the National Symphony Orchestra.
As far as counter-programming goes…

The special will also include an ensemble performance by The United States Air Force Band.
NBC at 8 pm will go live with Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular. The two-hour broadcast will be hosted by Grammy-nominated recording artist Mickey Guyton and Access Hollywood‘s Zuri Hall and feature performances by Bell Biv DeVoe, Shaboozey, Lainey Wilson, Luis Fonsi, Tanner Adell, The War and Treaty, Alex Newell, Amber Mark, Brandy Clark and Guyton.
Always such an inspiration. Thank you!
More like the fall of America lol
I’ve watched these for several years and this was by far the worst production/direction ever! I couldn’t understand most of the lyrics from the performers because they mics were adjusted properly and furthermore the shots of the fireworks were awful! They kept jumping around so much, and from so many bad angles it wasn’t a pleasant experience at all. I was highly disappointed by this year’s show. This has nothing to do with the performers they chose to bring in this year, it just felt so poorly executed in the way everything was presented.
