Starz is making sure you won’t be suffering through a Droughtlander for years to come. [pmc_inline_gallery]
Season 7 of Outlander will premiere Friday, June 16 at 8/7c, TVLine has learned, and will be split into two parts, with the second part debuting in 2024. (New episodes will also be available each Friday at midnight ET on the Starz app and via streaming and on-demand.) Season 7 will consist of 16 episodes in total, with two halves of eight episodes each. Starz also released a number of new first-look images, including the photo of Sam Heughan’s Jamie Fraser above.
In January, Starz announced that the upcoming eighth season of Outlander will be its last, but the story won’t end there: The network has also ordered a spinoff, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, centered on Jamie’s parents.
Season 7 will feature the recast of a popular character: Kristin Atherton (Doctors, Waterloo Road) will take over as Jamie’s sister, Jenny Murray, a role played in Seasons 1 through 3 by Laura Donnelly (The Nevers). The season, which showrunner Matthew B. Roberts has said will “revisit some of our favorite characters in different times and places,” also will feature the return of Graham McTavish (who plays Dougal MacKenzie), Nell Hudson (Laoghaire Fraser), Steven Cree (the elder Ian Murray), Lotte Verbeek (Geillis Duncan), Andrew Whipp (Brian Fraser) and Layla Burns (Joan MacKimmmie). In addition, Charles Vandervaart (Lost in Space) will join the cast as William Ransom, Jamie’s grown son.

Can’t wait for new season of Outlander! 8 episodes this summer & 8 episodes in 2024.
So I’m guessing that it be broadcast on the Starz cable channel the following Sunday?
It airs on Friday. A lot of Starz shows have been airing on Friday lately. Ghost and Party Down currently.
These split seasons are becoming the norm.
It makes me not want to get into series.
It is annoying when a season of 12-13 episodes is split, which often is done for dubious reasons such as two opportunities at the Emmys. Or there is a long delay between part A and part B. In this case, the season is 16 episodes, splitting a 16-18 episode season was a staple on basic cable for years, The Walking Dead, USA, TNT, ABC Family. Usually those basic cable series would also return for part B in a reasonable amount of time a few months later. TBD what Starz will do with Outlander season 7.
They’re splitting S7 because they super-sized it (16 episodes) because S6 was shortened to 8 episodes due to the pandemic.
My guess, and it’s only that, is that they’ll air part 2 of S7 first quarter ’24.
Don’t you think it is, for the network, basically getting “2 seasons for the price of 1”? Espedially since they’ve already announced that this w/b e the penultimate season, I think thry’re really trying to milk it for all it’s worth. So much for waiting till J & C are a hundred years old!
This is becoming beyond tiresome
Just air one godamn season even streaming is doing it now and I don’t like it ugh
I worry this is overkill…there’s still 26 episodes left, are we just gonna drag this out till 2026…it reminds me of what the did with walking dead, which I don’t feel worked in the end…I like outlander but they’ve split so many seasons already that the show feels like it’s run longer than only 6 seasons . I just don’t want to overstay its welcome.
Well there are nine books and they have only really covered through the first half of book 6. I would assume the remaining episodes would cover us through book 8 which could give a pretty satisfying ending.
What do I except? A full season this year, I might not be alive next year…….
I feel like these split seasons, and variations of it, are a way to generate hype about shows and drive ratings. Seems like every show now makes a big deal about “Fall Finales” and “Winter Premieres” when that was never a thing in the past. These kinds of gimmicks, and split seasons, feel like hype generators more than anything.
These split seasons just generate more dollars for STARZ. Not more viewers.
Disgusting show should be cancelled
🐂💩!
I’m a bit disappointed the “story” is being slowed down, 16 episodes over 2 years? Seriously? And then who knows how long it will take to air the final season, which, by the way is far from the end of the story. I’m not sure I’ve complained before because I love Outlander; the cast has been wonderful as well. I enjoyed every one of the books too.
Roger and Bree kids go back to 30th century
Very disappointed in a split season 7!! And ending the series after Season 8 begs the question … really?? How do they intend to finish with 2 more books and a surprise at the end of Book 10 (re Jamie’s “ghost”). Maybe … a couple of 2-3 hour movies to wrap it all nicely??? We can hope.
Excited to see S7 & love the split episodes. The news of a spin off is awesome. Somehow outlander has become a way of life & living without any future episodes or seasons seems unbearable.
With the Outlander drought do you think it’s really fair to loyal fans to split the series and make us wait yet again?
Outlander has lost its time travel gestalt. Its turned into a hard scrabble US Revolutionary tale of uninteresting boredom. I have lost interest in this series since 1) it keeps getting chopped up into little bits of seasons, and 2) no time travel stories except for a few seconds of flashes of time travel that NEVER seem to be explored. PLus I have to pay to see Starz, which is easy to turn on but hard to cancel, and they have nothing much else of interest. Too bad a story line that had such promise has turned into a pile of drek…….
Why would STARZ end this series before book 10??!! How do they think they can put everything into so few episodes, especially when there are only 8 lousy episodes a season to begin with??!!
This is such a terrific series, but dragging it out over long periods of time just isn’t fair to those of us who have invested our time in viewing it. And to be sure STARZ, we all want to know what’s up with Jamie’s ghost from the 1st season!! You really need to fill in all the blanks and make the ending worth everyone’s valuable time!
I would like to see Jamie in future world see how he experiences it. Meet Mickey Mouse!
I am a loyal and devoted fan of Outlander, but to break the season up into two Seasons is ridiculous. We waited all through the pandemic and we had a short six season. Now they keep going on shows and saying how epic this season is going to be with 16 episodes then why not give them to us all at once, you get us on the edge of our seats and then “you say it’s time for a droughtlander “Those of us who have been along for the whole ride deserve better than that also why would you cancel it after eight seasons there are still two books left (nine and 10)even though we’ve read them we want to see it on the screen. There are too many unanswered questions,to hurry up and wrap it up in the next season with eight episodes I don’t think it’s gonna work so please!please! give us more Outlander now and in the future.
I need to know “when” in 2024 we can see the 2nd half of season 7.
Good grief. enough is fuging enough already. Just show the damn series. The ONLY reason I subscribe to Starz was for this series. … guess it will just get cancelled. Since we have to wait two years to watch the damn thing, completely over it.
