America’s Got Talent welcomed one of its most familiar (or at least familiar-sounding) acts yet on Tuesday as we rolled into Week 7 of Season 16 auditions.
Mouth noise wizard Michael Winslow — known far and wide for playing Sgt. Larvelle Jones in the Police Academy movies and TV show (yes, there was a show!) — took to the AGT stage this week, telling the judges, “I still have some sounds to make.” Chilling!
Proving that he’s more than just a human sound board, Winslow immediately won the judges over with a comedy set about his childhood that worked in impressive impressions of noises from airplanes, radios and more.
Hit PLAY on the video above to watch Winslow’s audition, then read on for more acts moving forward after Week 7…
* Temple London, a high-flying, high-kicking father/son kung fu duo with impressive moves and a strong sense of tradition. And heads of steel, apparently. Click here to watch.
* Hiplet Ballerinas, a refreshingly diverse group of mold-breaking dancers who aim to inspire those who don’t feel “accepted” by the ballet community. (I award the troupe additional points for using The Pussycat Dolls’ criminally under-appreciated “React” in their performance.) Click here to watch.
* Sarah Potenza, a 41-year-old singer who wowed the judges with “Worthy,” a powerful anthem about the importance of self love — much to the chagrin of her cousin Craig, who has always doubted her. Eat it, Craig! Click here to watch.
* Michael and Angelina, a pint-sized pair of dancing siblings whose older brother appeared on AGT back in 2016… only for Howie Mandel to buzz his dreams into the ground. In fact, their mother even joined them on stage to tell that “rude” Mandel exactly what she thought of him (“He was dancing his heart out!”) and to get an apology. It was a lot. Watch:

* Ehrlich, a dancing illusionist from the Philippines who left the judges equally confused, impressed and hungry for more. Click here to watch.
* Gene and Isabella, a father-daughter dancing duo, and The Owl and the Pussycat, who delivered a “perfect” and “nerve-wracking” audition, were shown briefly during a dance montage.
* Hello Sister, a Florida-based trio of rock ‘n’ roll sisters whose original song about #MiddleSchoolProblems just didn’t do it for the judges. The audience pressured them into letting the girls through to the next round, but no one was happy about it. “Hopefully next time you’re less nervous and it sounds better,” Heidi Klum told them. And she was right to say it. I would never pay to see these girls in Vegas. Click here to watch.
* Kevin Micoud, a full-time mentalist who did a “mind transmission” between Terry Crews and the female judges, getting them all to think of the same previous AGT contestants. He also incorporated some fun holograms into his act, elevating it to some kind of Doctor Strange tomfoolery. Click here to watch.
* Scarlett Business, a hand-balancing contortionist drag performer (an AGT first!), who twisted her way into the judges’ hearts. (Side note: Can we get this queen on the next season of RuPaul’s Drag Race? It’s not like the two show doesn’t already have plenty of overlap. Just ask Jan, Rosé, Tammie Brown and Derrick Barry!) * The evening ended with Ray Singleton, a singer from Charlotte, N.C. who dedicated his beautiful performance of Andy Grammer’s “I Am Yours” to his wife, a United States Navy veteran and a brain cancer survivor. Click here to watch.
Which of this week’s acts would have gotten your hypothetical Golden Buzzer? Weigh in via our poll below, then drop a comment with your thoughts on Week 7.
I love AGT, but is it fair to have pros compete? The Sklar Brothers… maybe not super famous, but they’ve been on quite a few TV shows. Gina Brillon… I’ve been a big fan of her for years, and while she hasn’t quite hit superstar status yet, she is a known comic. And now Michael Winslow? His star status may not be what it was 40 years ago, but he had a darn good career. Leave the AGT auditions for the amateurs.
if i could be arrested for a thought, I’d be in jail – I wanted to reach into the tv and slap michael and angelina’s brat of a mother into the middle of next week – howie judged your kid 6 years ago – thats his job – and if you can’t handle it then dont go on AGT
THANK YOU! Howie shouldn’t have apologized. If you go on a talent show, you’re going to be judged. As a parent, you tell your kids that this may happen and it’s okay.
Was more impressed by Michael, the way he twisted and kept form, impressive!
I wish they would keep the cameras on the acts. you can’t hear the singers or comedians because the audience is screaming
Some good acts last night…but another mentalist (it is all just trickery), the screaming fake audience is distracting, all that wasted time the little kid dancers having to take a back seat to the mom vs. Howie and his vote 6 years ago against their brother. And yes the camera wandering away from the act itself, Simon’s stupid shorts and Sofia…why are you so understated and no fun this season?
Fell the same way about Winslow that I did about the Sklars…like them a lot, but this isn’t supposed to be American’s Got Talent We’ve Already Seen. Almost none of them are completely new, but if you’ve already been on TV or film multiple times, you aren’t the talent I expect from the show. But he’s still got it.
.
Hiplet Ballerinas…I mean, were they just bad? Most of the act wasn’t coordinated at all. It’s like what you’d expect a bunch of fat middle aged guys in a joke act to do with everyone doing the moves and not being in sync at all. And other than standing on their toes, how was it ballet? If they had done real ballet to hip hop music, that would have been really cool. But it was just basically tippy toe hip hop dancing, that we’ve seen dozens do better on this show.
.
Agreed that the mom was annoying. Stage mom annoying. And her kids weren’t that great anyway. I actually think Howie was truly annoyed, and it wasn’t an act. Normally I don’t get a lot of his criticism, but can’t say I blame him this time.
.
Don’t know if Ehrlich has a next step, but at least it was a different sort of illusion mixed with dance. I imagine it’s a lot less impressive if the lights come up. In a similar vein Micloud should skip the mentalist stuff which was mundane and stick to the light show, because that was new and cool. Of course he was aided by the editing because they never let the shot linger enough to get a good look at his hands.
.
Hello Sisters weren’t particularly great vocalists and did get overwhelmed by the music some, but dang if they didn’t have a lot of personality and a cool vibe. They’re not going far, but it wasn’t a crime to advance them.
* At the beginning of his act, you can see Micaud pull something from the back of the chair Crews was sitting in (maybe the hologram device?) and replace it at the end. He lost me with that.
* I don’t know what was more beautiful, Ray Singleton’s cover of “I Am Yours” or the playing of Calum Scott’s “Biblical” at the end of it.
“I would never pay to see these girls in Vegas.”
No, you shouldn’t, at this point. Agreed, they’re not going to win AGT’s million this time, but give them some time to improve, and who knows. Heck, the drummer is only 12! There are pros who can’t drum like that.
Yeah, if it was limited to contestants who really have a chance to win a million dollars then it would be a really short season. Maybe not much of anything re recap.
