This week on The Good Doctor, Carly grapples with her jealousy over Shaun and Lea’s continued friendship, while Morgan’s worsening condition takes its toll in the operating room.
After an early-morning quickie — or, as Carly puts it, a “pre-dawn romantic interlude” — Shaun and Carly are late to work. Carly wants to discuss the timing of their rendezvous over lunch, but Shaun has too much to get done. What he doesn’t divulge to his girlfriend is that his to-do list includes lunch with Lea. As his former roommate chomps down on a salad, she tells him that she has decided to quit her cushy startup job. She’s been stuck in a rut and she needs a change.
Meanwhile, back at St. Bonaventure, Shaun, Morgan and Lim treat social-media influencer Kayley (played by 13 Reasons Why‘s Chelsea Alden). When Shaun saves her life, he gains unwanted notoriety. The hospital wants to take advantage of the situation and prop Shaun up in front of the press, but the medical marvel doesn’t want to commit to an interview. Even if he did, he says, he doesn’t have the time — what with work and all the sex he’s having with Carly! That’s exactly what he tells Glassman before he switches gears and suggests that his mentor hire Lea to help digitize the clinic. Glassy is hesitant, but agrees to consider Lea if Shaun will reconsider talking to the press. And so, the following day, Glassman has Lea in for an interview as a favor to Shaun. He and Lea agree that they’d kill each other, but Lea proves her worth when she bypasses the clinic’s firewall to show that patients’ sealed records are at risk of being intercepted.
Elsewhere in the hospital, Shaun asks Carly out to lunch. He wants to pick her brain and see what she thinks about talking to the press. Once he gets his girlfriend’s opinion, he tells her that he’s on his way upstairs to see what Lea thinks. He then lets slip that he saw his bestie for lunch yesterday. Carly is visibly upset, not just about the lunch, but that Shaun has arranged for Lea to work at the hospital, where she can hover over their relationship. Shaun defends himself, saying that there was no reason to tell his girlfriend about the lunch before now. He also defends arranging a job interview for Lea; if she gets the job, she’ll be working all the way on the other side of the hospital. Carly eventually steps out for air and talks through her feelings with Morgan, of all people. Morgan says that Carly has every right to be jealous of Lea, then suggests that a little bit of jealousy is good. “Give into it, then get over it,” she says to her.
Eventually, Carly confronts Shaun. She acknowledges that Lea is a good friend, and she doesn’t want her boyfriend to cut Lea out of his life. With that being said, going to Lea for advice “was like Wyoming all over again.” Shaun is able to make sense of Carly’s feelings, then tells her that they’ll work through this together. As for talking to the press, he ultimately decides against it. He tells Glassman that he considered all the arguments, and he wants to be known as a good doctor, not a good autistic doctor.
As for Morgan, her conversation with Carly comes prior to Kayley’s surgery, on which she has been chosen by Lim to take lead. While outside, Morgan experiences pain in her hand; her rheumatoid arthritis is flaring up again. Rather than confess to Lim, she scrubs in for surgery and the patient suffers a complication. Morgan finds a fix, but the complication might have been her doing. Later on, Glassman confronts the third-year surgical resident and surmises that her arthritic pain caused the screwup.
Morgan also stirs up trouble outside the O.R. this week — or so we’re led to believe. Outside the hospital, she spots Melendez and Claire on a mid-afternoon run. In a subsequent scene, Lim walks into Melendez’s office and shuts the door. She tells him that there’s something awkward they need to talk about: “You and Claire.” Melendez gets up from his seat and tells his ex that she can open the door, because there’s nothing remotely improper going on between him and Dr. Browne. That’s when Lim reveals that she has received an anonymous favoritism complaint, and they need to deal with it.
This all happens amid the backdrop of a Case of the Week involving a single mom who uses her daughter’s stool to do a home fecal transfer. (The line “Mommy drunk my poop” will haunt my nightmares for weeks to come.) This disgusting twist turns out to be a blessing in disguise, as Mom’s abdominal pain forces the doctors to run tests on her daughter’s stool. The results reveal that the child has serious, yet treatable cardiac problems that have quietly plagued her up until now.

(The line “Mommy drunk my poop” will haunt my nightmares for weeks to come.) – Heh, god, same. That was a strange case, and they had me genuinely worried about that little girl for a time. But yay for a good outcome.

I really liked the way they threaded the topic of influencers and listening to others’ opinions through all the storylines tonight. Made for some good discussion and debate among the team. I think Shaun made the right choice for himself in the end, and I like how he talked it all out with Glassman. They’ve been having some really good scenes together this season.
.
As for Carly, I understand her concerns, and I do wonder how Lea will fare working at the hospital in general (especially if she’s working alongside Glassman). But I also hope that she and Lea can get to know each other a little better over time. Maybe that’ll help put her at ease a little more.
.
Curious how that whole thing with the anonymous complaint will play out now.
I was totally blown away by the little girs acting! She was fantastic! Who is she and how old is she? Watch out for this little star.loved entire show. Always do!!
Agreed. You don’t usually see that in a child that age. Very nice job.
Agreed! She was great and sooooo adorable!
Her name is Mika Jones. She’s Canadian and has been acting since she was two years old.
MILA Jones.
This was honestly one of the best episodes in a long time (written by David Shore and you could tell). Love the impending Carly/ Lea drama from Lea working with Glassy and especially the snitch storyline. Oh la la. So much potential soap opera drama 😂. And I love it! So happy we are back for another season.
Gonna go out on a limb and guess that Park filed the complaint and not Morgan that’s the sort of twist they would throw in there. Just a hunch
Honestly, it was definitely Park. Morgan had no reason to send that letter. Morgan is competitive, yes, but only in the workplace. In fact, they weren’t even on the same case and she got the lead role for surgery. So there definitely wasn’t a reason for her to do that. And although her and Claire aren’t “friends” after everything they’ve been through she wouldn’t have done that to Claire. Morgan was most likely curious in that scene, not upset. Melendez and Claire weren’t at work so they weren’t doing anything wrong. It was definitely Park all because Claire made valid points. Smh ridiculous.
I agree that it was Park. Morgan seems like the type of person who would just confront someone to their face. Park would definitely be by the book and is more suspicious, likely from his previous job as a cop.
Exactly. Morgan would confront Claire in person. In fact, I suspect Morgan would say something to Claire by next week’s episode.
Even though Park was a cop, I have to say I’m very disappointed in him with this action.
It doesn’t matter “they weren’t at work”. Companies realize off-work relationships can affect relationships AT work. They keep a tight leash on it, especially when one person is in a position to affect the other person’s career.
I also assume it’s Park. He got smacked down twice when Melendez sided with Claire – once changing his POV after hearing her commentary. The camera clearly showed Park’s wounded ego and suspicious gaze.
Precisely. And what bothers me about the first agreement was the fact that they were talking about Claire’s friend of a friend. It was a social conversation!! It didn’t have anything to do with the case! Why Park was so annoyed by that made absolutely no sense.
The second conversation was about a parent saving their child! What parent wouldn’t go to great lengths for their kid??? Honestly, Park is an idiot for this. This will be an issue next week. Park ruined everything now everything will be awkward.
I disagree. The point is Melendez, who is typically not that flexible, changed his opinion twice in this episode after Claire had something to say, and said “I agree with Claire”….”I’m with Claire”. Your average person would have the same reaction as Park’s, especially since Park was supporting Melendez’ opinion. The mother wasn’t trying to save the kid’s life when she did the home fecal transfer. She was trying to solve her own condition. Park was right that it was a “lucky coincidence.”. Who is going to give the mother credit for saving the daughter…by accident? Not many.
Park’s reactions were completely normal. Melendez did a 180, and that is out of character for him. Also for him to say “I agree with Claire”, “I’m with Claire”, is also misplaced in such a setting when discussing a case. Typically on this show, superiors would have referred to her as Dr. Browne. As far as the parent “saving the child”….Park was right…that was a “lucky coincidence”. You typically don’t save your child by doing a home fecal transfer FROM the child.
I had two comments, because, while all my other comments posted immediately, my first of these two comments had to be released. It looked as if it hadn’t taken. My apologies for two.
A true “twist” would be to have someone other than Park or Morgan make the complaint. Showing Park and Morgan’s reaction could be a set up.
I was thinking the very same thing. If Morgan were going to file a complaint, I don’t think she would do it anonymously. The only other option I would say is Shaun but he’s too busy having sex to be concerned about all that! Plus, I don’t think it’s in his character to complain anonymously either.
It could be a wild card. It could be a surgical nurse.
Paige Spara posted a spoiler-ish picture on her IG account of Lea and Carly in the Hospital elevator together (and Lea was wearing an ID badge) so it’s safe to assume she gets hired. I’m really happy about this development as it will allow Lea to be involved in the show more organically. I’m glad she isn’t going anywhere and I hope Shaun and her ultimately end up together (even though I like Carly alot).
The complaint could have also been filed by Park since Melendez kept taking Claire’s side in the OR debates. It was most likely Morgan though since she spotted them running together…
I didn’t catch why the little girl’s mother was doing a fecal transfer? Can someone explain why she “drank the poo”?
It was to cure her UTI issues. She looked up a bogus, self-help video that referred to the poo treatment as valuable.
I love love love the good doctor everything about it every character is class personified but I want to make a comment about the little girl in this weeks episode she was amazing I want to know her name , when she had the heart attack and fell down the way she did ,my heart broke , but she a little superstar. Her little character has stayed with me..❤️
