🚨$1.1 Billion in Ransom Payments for 2023.🚨 According to researchers at Chainalysis.com, ransom payments nearly doubled in 2023 to $1.1 billion, compared to $560 million being paid in 2022. This is beyond alarming as there have been several articles by reputable sources stating that organizations are not paying ransoms, (hence the reason for the increase in data leaks) and also gives an idea of the drastic increase in the amount of ransomware attacks for 2023 as compared to previous years. It should be noted that those statistics may not be the actual total payments to ransomware groups with the figure possibly being higher. Clearly ransomware groups and threat actors are becoming more aggressive and we may perhaps see a continued similar treat if AI is maliciously incorporated in future attacks. Alex Samm and Shiva V.N Parasram have been working on a document detailing ransomware attacks by sector in #CARICOM and the #Caribbean and will share this report with the public on Monday (19th February). The report does not contain the names of victim organizations but instead details the industries hit categorized by country and by which group. we have also included published attacks in #Canada for comparison. We will also be discussing the findings in our upcoming CFSI CyberFence Webinar on Thursday 22nd February 2024. The link will be made available on Monday when the report is posted.
