EL Education Curriculum Module Performance Task Support
Perfect for Kindergarten and First Grade.
The Little “Toy Inventor” Engineers Program aligns with the
EL Education Curriculum Module Performance Task.
Learning and Critically Thinking
Workshops and instruction are provided by The Toy Museum of NY’s staff , with over 25 years of experience. Students will have access to explore and study different toys from The Toy Museum’s collection and connect the toys to real-world experiences.
Craftsmanship
A hands-on and age- appropriate crafty project will be distributed to each student enabling them to create their own authentic idea for a toy and do it on their own. Students will be given time to show and tell their creation and present their ideas in a safe environment. This exercise will help them build their confidence and help them communicate to their classmate’s about their toy idea and preferences.
The Little Toy Inventor Engineers connects also with the first grade product creation where the students can come up with a Magnificent Thing for the classroom.

This new series, The Toy Inventors Club, rolls out a virtual welcome mat to “dreamers, creators, inventors, tinkers, and entrepreneurs at heart.” The host Queen Marlene and Castle Guard Edwin transport us from the castle to the clubhouse to meet the team - Alex, Abigail and Evan - a very engaging trio who will guide us through this episode’s challenge: “Create Your Own Hidden Items Game.”
Viewers are encouraged to find hidden objects in the Circus, Farm and Sea - specifically starting with discovering the bowtie, ghost and hotdog floating under the water. (There are 3 downloadable templates for this activity.) Then It’s time to discuss other ways of creating hidden items games - maybe hide words. When the team gets a little frustrated one of them suggests creating a breathing square to help calm down and be open to new ideas. (The gentle exhaling and inhaling is a good “skill” to tuck away for other circumstances.) Next, a shaggy red creature, who has “great ideas” pinned to his furry chest, is encouraged to not listen to the Naysayer who lives in his head and tells him what he can’t do!
In this case: draw. Lesson learned. This episode reinforces the value of teamwork and collaboration; how both thinking outside the box and brainstorming can lead to more “great ideas.”
The 13 minute episode is filled with delightful quirky characters - both human and animated where everyone interacts naturally with each other. There are very good production values including music and a catchy theme song inviting us to “come to town and come on down to the Toy Inventors Club” performed by talented musicians.
Future episodes include: Invent Your Own Geometry Board Game, Design Your Own Toy Building Blocks, and Your own Pretend Creature Toys. All in an effort to “add to the global community of inventors.” There is always a smile tucked into the language: “inventing toys to make your life more fun.” The young audience is challenged with each episode. Let's see what YOU can come up with.
