Following the release of the trailer for Kareena Kapoor’s upcoming thriller 'The Buckingham Murders,' social media has been abuzz with comparisons to
Kate Winslet’s critically acclaimed miniseries 'Mare of Easttown.' Netizens have been quick to point out similarities between the two projects, with some even accusing 'The Buckingham Murders' of being a copy. Director
Hansal Mehta has now responded to the ongoing debate.
One Twitter user voiced criticism, writing, “Mare of Easttown… God please! Plz get something original…” The post quickly gained attention online, sparking debates among fans and critics. But director Hansal Mehta was quick to shut down the claims, responding directly to the criticism. He urged the audience to hold off judgment until they had seen the film, saying, “Decide after you watch. Don’t jump to conclusions.” His confident rebuttal suggests he believes The Buckingham Murders will stand out as a unique story in its own right.
Meanwhile, at the trailer launch event, Kareena was also asked about the apparent parallels between her character in 'The Buckingham Murders' and Winslet’s performance in 'Mare of Easttown'. Kapoor addressed the speculation by revealing that the script for her film had come to her a year before 'Mare of Easttown' was released. She further clarified that while she is a huge fan of Winslet and finds inspiration in her work, the character she plays is not a direct reflection of Winslet’s role.
