I had a few errands to run this week. One of them was to exchange a bra I had purchased. I thought nothing of bringing my trusty side-kick, Grant, along for the errands. When will I get it through my head that baby’s grown’ up?
We had two quick stops in the same shopping center. I parked the car, we got out and went into the first shop, took care of business and then into the lingerie store. I was at the counter for about a minute when I realized Grant wasn’t with me. Or anywhere in the store, for that matter.
He had stepped outside and planned to wait for me on the sidewalk in front of the shop. He has never left a shop without saying anything to me before. I looked out on him. “Too much ladies’ underwear?” I asked.
“Um, yeah. I don’t want to go back in there.”
No problem. Now that I know, I will make sure to be sensitive to that. Seriously, people: I was on Errand-Auto-Pilot mode and it didn’t even cross my mind he might be uncomfortable.
But then again, I figure now we are even from the last bra shopping embarrassment.
How about you? Ever made a dumb blunder like this? Please tell me I am not alone.
lol, um yeah, we’d be surprised at how aware they are of things even at that age.
We went somewhere one time in Tucson, when we came back our neighbor came over to tell us he caught our boys (16 months apart) looking at Playboy magazine in our shed right by their side of our block wall. I was so embarrassed. Where did they get the magazine? I’m trying to remember how old they were, think about 10/11.
They never would tell us where they got the magazine. Good thing we’d asked our neighbor to keep an eye on them til we got back. Our daughter was 13, but the boys were a bit much for her at times depending on how long we’d be gone, we’d taken the baby with us.
Just think how mortified your son would have been if one of his friends had seen him in that store. Kids are so much more aware of things than we think thanks to tv, school.
Happy Spring and Easter.
I think I was just in denial since he’s The Baby. Oh well! 🙂
oh my gosh Vivienne! you made me laugh!!! I have to share a funny story with you. My son was getting married. he wanted me to go with him to Victoria secrets to buy his bride something. He didn’t want to buy anything trashy. so that was why I was going. we get there, one of the sales girls is helping us. I am a little uncomfortable knowing why we are there. all of a sudden son throws the panties and bra to the ground. what????? he looks dead pan at us both and says, Yep, I will take this. It looks great on the ground! We were the ones embarrassed! I told the story of soon to be DIL bridal shower. love your stories!!!
Oh my word!!! That is the best story ever!! Hilarious!! (Clearly you raised him with a great sense of humor!) 😉
