Amex Is Finally Opening a Centurion Lounge at LAX

This is one announcement many of us have been anticipating for quite some time. The day has finally arrived!

Tuesday morning, American Express confirmed that it's planning to open a Centurion Lounge at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The issuer's latest hangout will be located after security in the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) and is expected to open in 2019. We'd first seen signs suggesting a Centurion Lounge at LAX in 2016, and those rumors were confirmed earlier this year. Now American Express has officially announced it is happening.

The new lounge will span more than 13,900 square feet, just 1,000 or so shy of the upcoming JFK location, which measures 15,000 square feet. In addition to a Centurion Lounge in Denver, the network's largest outpost in New York City is also slated to open in 2019, though it isn't clear which lounge will launch first.

The LAX lounge will offer the usually array of amenities, such as a full bar with custom cocktails, buffet dining, showers and more, but this particular Los Angeles location will also feature a spa, family room and a special "tranquility area" with a mix of bright and dimly lit areas intended to help travelers adjust to new time zones.

In addition to Denver and JFK, which have yet to open, the Los Angeles Centurion Lounge will join locations at the following airports:

Centurion Lounge access is limited to customers with a Centurion Card, The Platinum® Card from American Express or The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. Eligible cardmembers will be able to bring two guests and purchase $50 day passes for additional guests.

The Tom Bradley International Terminal already offers some top-notch lounges, including those operated by Etihad, Qantas and Star Alliance, however carriers limit access to certain elites and itineraries. The Centurion Lounge will be accessible to all eligible cardmembers, and due to a recent tunnel and passage expansion, you'll be able to get there from terminals 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, without any need to make an extra trip through the security checkpoint.
