Welcome to The Idea Room.
I hope you enjoy what I share here.
My name is Amy Huntley and I am married to Mr. Idea Room and we are the parents of FIVE amazing children. My family inspires most of what I create and share here with you. I am a former High School Science teacher and now am enjoying blogging and being a stay-at-home mom.
I love to create a beautiful home and enjoy it with my family. On this site you will find a wide range of creative activities…from recipes, kids activities, crafts, home decor and DIY projects.
The Mr. is a pretty handy guy and together we enjoy working on projects with one another. I grew up working on apartments with my family and continue to use those skills today as we update our 30 year old home. You can learn more about that here.
I enjoy running, camping, back-packing, photography, working on projects, playing outside and boating in my spare time.
I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism in Nov. of 2011 and 7 major food allergies/intolerances in Dec. of 2012 (corn, soy, wheat, milk, peanuts, yeast and tomatoes). I am in the process of converting to eating clean and have been learning more about the Paleo lifestyle because it supports the foods that I can eat. If you are interested you can read about my hypothyroidism symptoms and diagnosis here and my food allergy struggles here.
I have spent the last twenty years working with special needs children as a volunteer and a camp counselor for children with Muscular Dystrophy at a week long Summer Camp. Admittedly, I do this more for myself and the joy I feel working with these kids and in serving them. I also do it so my kids can see me serving others. Someday I hope they will have the desire to attend camp as a volunteer when they are old enough. You can read more about that here, here and here.
I enjoy sharing things in a happy and positive light. This site is a place that I want others to come to feel uplifted and inspired. It is never my intention for anyone to leave this site feeling like they are any less than I am. I am not perfect by any means. My life is not perfect. My house can get messy and cluttered especially with 5 children running around. And sometimes we stay in our jammies all day long. I try to keep things real and hope that I don’t leave you with an impression that everything is perfect. For a post where I “keep it real” go here.
My goal for this blog is to share what inspires me and to interact with other moms and women. I also believe that families are the foundation of society. I feel so grateful for motherhood. And I believe I have a sacred responsibility for nurturing and raising my children, who will one day grow up to BE our future. I believe that being woman and Mothers in today’s world can be difficult. I desire to be able to create a positive place where we can share and be uplifted in positive ways by one another. Why not pool our resources and help each other out in this difficult journey of Motherhood and Womanhood? A place where we share, encourage and uplift rather than tear down and belittle.

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Some people call us Mormons. I LOVE my religion and feel like it has developed me into who I am today. If you are interested you can learn more about that here.
If you are not sick of me yet…I share some random facts here and some of my favorite items here and here.
Feel free to contact me for any reason. I love to hear from my readers! I love getting emails and “meeting” new people.
