Sonia is an academic researcher based at the University of Queensland. Her research uses genomics to improve understanding, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. By focusing on underrepresented groups, including women, her research aims to also address inequity in cardiovascular outcomes. She has co-led the first large-scale international genetic study of heart failure. She also leads the South Asian Genes and Health in Australia Study which aims to increase South Asian representation in cardiovascular disease research.
She has been recognised for her work through several awards, inlcuding:
