Postdoctoral Researcher, Earth Observation Science, Plymouth Marine Laboratory

May Rodriguez has recently joined Plymouth Marine Laboratory as an Earth Observation scientist. Her work at PML focuses on the ocean carbon cycle characterisation using remote sensing data, and the improvement of primary production models. She is currently working in ESA SCOPE and the Simons Foundation CBIOMES project.

May has explored diverse aspects of water systems, ranging from hydrological modelling to water quality assessment. May has worked two years as a research assistant in a Physical Chemistry laboratory focusing on water quality related projects, before starting her MSc in Water Engineering (University of Exeter). Her doctoral research at the QUEX Institute (joint programme University of Exeter and University of Queensland) focused on water systems’ resilience to climate change employing numerical modelling and machine learning. As a post-doctoral researcher at Eawag (ETH Domain), she furthered her research in water systems using deep learning approaches for sewage spills forecasting, whilst serving as a scientific assistant to the Directorate.

Furthermore, she is proficient in Python, GIS and is familiar with the usage of high-performance computer clusters. May also counts with two years' industry experience as an Engineer and has been involved in teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate level, as well as outreach programmes.
