Dr Haggai Olshanetsky is a historian, archaeologist and classicist at the Ancient History department at Warsaw University, and a researcher in the Beethoven NCN project "The Dawn of Monotheism? Judean religion(s) in Persian and Early Hellenistic Period (5th-3rd cent. BCE) in the light of iconographic, epigraphical and Biblical sources.”
Dr Olshanetsky’s research focuses on the social and economic history of the Hellenistic and Roman Empires, especially concerning the assimilation and acceptance of Jews and other minorities. His work ranges from Jewish gladiators and soldiers in the armies of the ancient empires to Jews as slave owners and traders in the Persian and Hellenistic periods. He also researches trade in the Roman period and late Antiquity, as well as the processes that brought about the decline of the Eastern Roman Empire.
