Francisco García Sánchez

Assistant Professor in Urban Planning, Universidad de Cantabria

More than 25 years professional career in Architecture and Urban Planning with a comprehensive understanding of design processes and Sustainable Development. PhD in Urban Planning, he is Assistant Professor at Universidad de Cantabria, has participated in various research projects at the universities of Castile-La Mancha and Cantabria about specific Sustainable Urban Planning. He has been co-director of the Master Plan for the Municipality of Herencia and participated as collaborator in different Spatial and Urban
Planning Developments for the Municipalities of Guía, Alcázar de San Juan, Teror and for the Insular Council of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands).
He has developed the Adaptation Plan in Santander, Spain, and as specialist in Urban
Sustainability and Adaptation Strategies for facing Climate Change in Cities, he has been working for financial institutions as Inter-American Development Bank in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala (2013-2014) with ICES Methodology and other research communities, as intern, at Institute for Sustainable Cities, Hunter College, City University of New York (2015). He also developed as urban planner different international climate adaptation projects for the cities of Popayán, Sincelejo-Corozal (Colombia), and Loja and Puerto Ayora Galápagos (Ecuador) in 2019. With an active participation in research Forums as Symposium on Climate Change at FAO Headquaters, Rome (2015) and ICLE 8th European Conference
on Sustainable Cities & Towns in Bilbao (2016), he has published several articles and monographs about climate change adaptation integrating blue-green infrastructure. The last project involved is LIFE COSTAdapta, a proposal for resilient coast in the Canary Islands.
