Caden is a current Political Science PhD student at Boston University (BU) after spending nearly 10 years in Washington D.C. working as a foreign affairs officer for the U.S. State Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Labor, and Human Rights and as a monitoring and evaluation professional for various international development non-profits.
Caden studied Swahili in Tanzania as a Boren Fellow (2018-2019) and Critical Language Fellow (2019) and holds a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A. from George Washington University focused on conflict, ethnic violence, and identity politics in sub-Saharan Africa.
They are a current Foreign Language and Area Studies fellow and are affiliated with the African Studies Center at BU.
