Mike Tyson’s cameo in The Hangover undoubtedly helped the movie become a huge success - but the former heavyweight champ had no idea he was meant to be in it because he was ‘doing drugs’.
Tyson appeared alongside Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms in the comedy back in 2009.
The trio steal Iron Mike’s tiger and he orders them to return it - not before he knocks Galifianakis’ character out with a singe punch.
Tyson, who returns to the ring aged 54 this weekend to fight Roy Jones Jr, recalled in an interview with Tony Robbins about how he found out he was supposed to be in the movie.
“I met the guys in a club, they were in the VIP section and I said ‘This is where I normally sit, nobody’s normally here,’” he said.
“So I went in there, I’m checking these guys to see what they’re doing in my section. It was Zach, the other guy, and he said, ‘We’re going to be in a movie with you.’ And I said, ‘Yeah? When?’ And he said ‘Tomorrow.’
“And I didn’t know as I was drinking and smoking back then, doing drugs so I didn’t know I was involved in the movie. So eventually I had to go and do the movie and it was a success.”
Iron Mike says he only cleaned up in 2009 and was a ‘full-blown cokehead’ prior to that.
The former heavyweight champion claimed to have taken cocaine before his shock 2004 defeat to Danny Williams, and also said he took the drug during his famous press conference brawl with Lennox Lewis in 2002.
“I was a full-blown cokehead,” Tyson claims while revealing he first took cocaine when he was 11.
“The history of war is the history of drugs. Every great general and warrior from the beginning of time was high.”
