This article is intended for administrators who want to understand our generative AI default settings policy. Use this policy to define your organization’s defaults for Chrome and ChromeOS generative AI features.
This policy can only be set via Google’s Admin console. Any users, browsers, or devices that are not managed via Google’s Admin console will have the non-enterprise (and non-education) defaults. See Configure generative AI settings in your Admin console for more details.
This policy only applies to covered generative AI features. To stay updated about new features, you can subscribe to Chrome Enterprise release notes. The release notes provide the planned milestone for each feature release and whether it is covered by this policy. Subscribe to Chrome Enterprise Release Notes.
The default value for this policy is Allow GenAI features without improving AI models. This allows Chrome to automatically provide our generative AI enterprise data guarantees to our Admin console users. Read Chrome—Generative AI features and policies for more details.
The Generative AI policy defaults setting does not impact any manually set policy values. For example, even if it is set to Allow GenAI features without improving AI models, you can still set individual generative AI features to Do not allow or Allow and improve AI models.
Read GenAiDefaultSettings for more details on configuring policy states.
