Commercial Construction of Newsday Multimedia Studio
Structure Tone managed the commercial construction and relocation of Newsday’s multimedia studio headquarters in Long Island, a state-of-the-art office that creates a bright, comfortable, energized environment for the multimedia organization. In addition to private offices and open workstations, specialty spaces include the cafeteria, five pantries, hub area (News), podcast room, TV broadcast studio, photo studio, control room, and an interactive multimedia space (known as Studio 2) with two major media walls for streaming live events. The sizable infrastructure package included a data center, five IDF closets, and 14 condensers and AC units on the mechanical side.
Studio 2 proved a major undertaking. To achieve the desired ceiling heights, our team removed all columns, installed support beams, and poured concrete to a 1/8” pitch. We built a raised platform to access the ceiling while working on the floor below. We installed fabric panels on the walls and an intricate BASWAphon plaster ceiling. Other project highlights included Harlequin flooring for added acoustical benefits and a 4×4 lighting grid in TV studio. We put in Dur-A-Flex epoxy flooring in the TV and photo studios and built a soundproof storefront system in the control room. Intelligent lighting includes LED fixtures with dimming and daylight harvesting features and a Digital Multiplex (DMX) system that communicates with the Crestron AV Rack and Douglas Lighting panel.
