How to watch our Tour games

It is only the fourth ever encounter with the Rossoneri after a two-legged UEFA Cup tie in 1978 and a friendly in Pittsburgh exactly 10 years prior to this match.

Yankee Stadium will be a fitting setting for such an illustrious match up, with the venue often a bucket list destination for fans of American sports.

Here we detail everything you need to know the stadium...

Residents

A multi-use field, the Yankee Stadium is home to Major League Baseball's New York Yankees and Major League Soccer's New York City.

Originally a baseball stadium only, our CFG-sister club New York moved in in 2015.

Yankees - the most successful baseball franchise of all-time - have called the stadium home since 1923, save for a two-year hiatus at the Shea Stadium in 1974 and 1975.

Rebuild

The original Yankee Stadium stood from 1923 - the same year City moved into Maine Road in Moss Side - until 2008.

This rebuilt facility, yards away from the original, was opened in April 2009 as a state-of-the-art baseball cathedral.

Capacity

With a current capacity of 46,537, the Yankee Stadium is the sixth largest baseball stadium in the US.

Given the changes required to the playing area to make a rectangular playing area work, this capacity can increase for football matches.

Heart of the City

The Yankee Stadium is located in the Bronx, north of Manhattan and across the Harlem River.

From there, it's just 14 minutes to Central Park with many of New York's other major attractions also within easy reaching distance.

Design

Many elements of the Yankee Stadium interior are inspired by the original venue to carry the name.

The roof of the new facility carries a replica of the frieze that was a trademark of the previous ballpark.

There are also hundreds of photographs capturing the history of the Yankees.

The New York Daily News newspaper partnered with the Yankees for the exhibition "The Glory of the Yankees Photo Collection", which was selected from the Daily News' collection of over 2,000 photographs.

Home of home runs

In its first season, the new Yankee Stadium quickly acquired a reputation as a 'launching pad' because of the high number of home runs hit there.

Through its first 23 games, 87 home runs were hit at the venue, easily besting Enron Field's  previous record set in 2000.

Hall of Famers

As Yankees are the most successful baseball franchise of all-time, it rings true that many of the sport's greats have called it home in their careers.

The Yankees have had 44 players and 11 managers inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, including many of the most iconic figures in the sport's history, such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, and Reggie Jackson; more recent inductees include Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter.

In fact, the original became nicknamed 'The House That Ruth Built', with the modern stadium receiving the moniker of 'The House That Jeter Built' as an affectionate nod to that history.

City's previous visits

Manchester City have played at the Yankee Stadium twice before, back in 2013 and 2014.

We beat Chelsea 5-3 in May 2013, with goals from Gareth Barry, Samir Nasri (2), James Milner and Edin Dzeko.

We were back in July 2014 to face Liverpool and Stevan Jovetic scored a brace in a 2-2 draw.

Different ball games

As well as New York City and Yankees, the stadium is the host of the annual Pinstripe Bowl, a major college football game.

In 2014, the stadium hosted outdoor two ice hockey matches between rival NHL sides with New York Rangers beating New Jersey Devils 7-3 and and then New York Islands 2-1.

In 2010, boxers Yuri Foreman and Miguel Cotto fought at the stadium in front of more than 20,000 spectators.

Not just sport

Jay-Z, Eminem, Paul McCartney, Metallica, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Garth Brooks, Bad Bunny and Jonas Brothers are just some of the musical superstars to have performed concerts at the Yankee Stadium.

The New York University graduation ceremonies are also held at the Yankee Stadium, with prominent guest speakers and honorary doctorates often present.
