Texas A&M Basketball rises in the newest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll Week 2 rankings

In his fifth season at the helm, Texas A&M Basketball (2-0) head coach Buzz Williams has his 2023-2024 squad off to a 2-0 start, including their recent 73-66 road victory over Ohio State to earn what should be an all-important Quad 1 victory.

With a trip to face SMU in Dallas, Texas, coming up this Tuesday night, the Aggies’ productive trio led by guards Wade Taylor IV, Tyrece Radford, and forward Henry Coleman III, all three scored 85% of team’s points against the Buckeyes, and will be depended on to continue scoring at a high rate through the remainder of non-conference play.

On Monday, the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll released its updated men’s basketball poll; the Aggies rose four spots from No. 19 to No. 15, impressing the voters after handling the Buckeyes in primetime in one of the more challenging venues in the Big 10. Texas A&M is the second highest-ranked SEC program below Tennessee, which ranks at No. 8.

Joining the Aggies and Volunteers in the top 25 includes the Arkansas Razorbacks (No. 14), the Kentucky Wildcats (No. 16), and the Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 22) to round things out. Receiving votes, The Mississippi State Bulldogs (17) and Auburn Tigers (6) are off to solid starts and remain dark horses once SEC play begins in January.

Texas A&M will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14 against SMU in Dallas, Texas at Moody Coliseum.
