The United States women's national team is one of the greatest soccer forces in the world. However, they have failed to live up to expectations in the last two Olympics. The team failed to medal in Rio in 2016 and only earned a bronze medal in Tokyo in 2021. The team will look to return to the top of the podium in London in 2024.

Of course, their journey to gold won't be easy. Teams like Germany and Australia are nipping at the United States' heels as favorites to win the tournament. Before the U.S. can test themselves against those titans though, they'll need to get through the group stages.

How are the quarterfinal teams determined?

Eight of the 12 teams competing in the Olympics will advance to the knockout stages. Those teams will be determined by standings in the group stage. The top-two teams in each group will advance alongside the two best third-place teams.
