Mets non-tender five players including Daniel Vogelbach

With the non-tender deadline coming and going, the Mets have decided to decline contracts for Daniel Vogelbach and four others.

The other four players include right-handed pitchers Jeff Brigham, Sam Coonrod and Trevor Gott as well as Luis Guillorme.

The Mets also announced that they came to a one-year agreement with DJ Stewart to remain with the team. The contract is reportedly worth $1.38 million.

All other players will be tendered a contract, including Pete Alonso, Drew Peterson, Joey Lucchesi and Drew Smith.

Vogelbach being non-tendered doesn’t come with a lot of surprise considering his tenure in Queens. Since being acquired at the 2022 trade deadline, the left-handed DH failed to produce the power the team was hoping he would provide.

It was further exasperated when Vogelbach failed to gain any traction throughout the 2023 year. In 159 total games with the Mets, Vogelbach slashed .241/.359/.415 while hitting 19 home runs and driving in 73 runs. Vogelbach was projected to receive $2.6 million in 2024.

Players on each team's 40-man roster who are not under contract and have fewer than six years of major league service time must be tendered a contract each offseason by the non-tender deadline. This includes players who are due raises via arbitration.

Heading into the 2023 non-tender deadline, the Mets had 10 players they had to make a decision on.

• Pete Alonso $22 million

• Trevor Gott: $2 million

• Drew Smith: $2.3 million

• Luis Guillorme: $1.7 million

• Joey Lucchesi: $2 million

• Sam Coonrod: $900,000

• Jeff Brigham: $1.1 million

• David Peterson: $2 million

• DJ Stewart: $1.5 million
