First-time MLB All-Stars on excitement, Paul Skenes, and meeting other stars
Yahoo Sports checks in with the fresh faces at the 2024 Midsummer Classic from All-Star Game Media Day in Arlington, TX.

Just being an all stars in honor and just the first one being the hometown is just incredible and it just, all my family is gonna be able to come out and then doing the derby.
I was, whenever they reached out to me, I was like, wow, really?
Me.
And then so yeah, to be at home, coming back to grew up going to the city across the street, but just growing up a Rangers fan, it's just pretty special.
I called my dad and he was working and I told him like quick and then he had to go.
But, um I got, I got to talk to my mom a little longer and she was super excited.
She, um she said she was in Publix, um a grocery store when I called her.
She said she uh shed a tear.
So it's pretty cool.
I'm only emotional when I play baseball.
So, you know, just, you know, very happy, very happy, you know, for the, for the work that I always put in, you know, and, you know, this is rewarding.
I got a bunch of text messages from, you know, people I talked to recently, people I haven't, you know, haven't seen or talked to in a long time.
It's, uh, you know, it's been, it's been cool to see all the, all the people reach out just from kind of all the different stops I've made in my baseball life for me.
It's my first all star game.
So, being here for me it's really cool.
And then I just think for fans as well, it's awesome.
I've got to talk to him a little bit.
He's a really like mature guy, uh great work ethic has a good feel for mechanics and like what he's doing physically at such a young age.
So I think kind of the sky is the limit and I hope he does well tomorrow with me and he's obviously got electric stuff and he's proven that.
So, uh yeah, looking forward to that, that uh competition and just kind of seeing this would be my first time facing him.
So it'd be pretty cool to see maybe Marcelo, you know, um he's having such an incredible year and, you know, I was drafted by Miami when he was at Miami and he was one of the first people to give me like an actual big league bat.
And I'll forever be grateful for that opportunity and then to see his career develop and, and him have the years having now, I think it's, he's been in so much hard work and I'm very proud of him and excited to to show the good man.
