Canutillo's season ends in area round with loss to Frisco Emerson
LUBBOCK — Some red zone struggles and a strong Frisco Emerson team did in Canutillo, as the Eagles saw another superb season end in the Class 5A Division II area round with a 44-0 loss Friday night.
Canutillo drove inside the Maverick 20 three times in the first half but didn't manage a score, starting early when they were stopped in a goal-to-goal situation and the game still scoreless.

Oklahoma quarterback commit Michael Hawkins then had a long touchdown run to put Emerson on the board first and they never looked back.
Later in the first half Emerson returned a fumble for a score, then after another Canutillo red-zone trip came up empty, Hawkins had a 95-yard touchdown run that put his team ahead 20-0.
The Mavericks led 27-0 at the end of the half and 41-0 at the end of the third quarter as the Eagles couldn't turn yards into points.
Canutillo finishes 9-3 after seeing their seven-game win streak snapped. Emerson improves to 10-2 as it heads to the area round.
