The 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the world's largest sporting event, kicked off on Wednesday, July 24 with 16 national soccer teams vying for gold before the opening ceremony.
Soccer's origins at the Summer Games can be traced back to the first Paris Olympic Games in 1900. Since then, it has played a significant role in every Summer Olympic Games, with the women's game introduced at the Atlanta Games in 1996.
For the men's teams, athletes must be under 23 years old, with three 23-plus players allowed on the roster. In contrast, the women's teams have no age restrictions, adding an interesting dynamic to the competition.
