Today show lifestyle contributor Jill Martin and husband Erik Brooks are divorcing after two years of marriage. Martin and Brooks reportedly filed divorce papers in early August. A spokesperson for Martin confirmed to Page Six that they “are nearly done with the process.”

Why Are Today’s Jill Martin and Erik Brooks Divorcing?

Fans recently noticed that Martin hasn’t been wearing her wedding ring on air, nor has she been posting photos of Brooks on social media. The Today contributor has not addressed the matter publicly.

“Because there are families involved, and the past year has been so earth-shattering for Jill, she plans for this to be her only acknowledgment,” her spokesperson told Page Six on September 4. “She is concentrating on her health and being an amazing daughter, friend and new aunt.”

Martin met Brooks on a dating app and the couple announced their engagement in 2019. They broke up a year later. She explained, “Erik is the most magnificent person, but with him living in Boston with his children, and me living in New York, the distance just became too difficult for us to maintain the kind of relationship that’s important to us both.”

They reconciled and got engaged again in 2021. Martin and Brooks got married in September 2022 at the New York Public Library.

In 2023, Martin shared the news of her devastating breast cancer diagnosis. “This has been hell for me and my family for the past two and a half months but it could have been prevented, so my goal is to make everyone aware of early detection for women and men,” she told Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie on the October 4, 2023 episode of the Today show. “This is my story so far. I can’t believe this is my movie. I’m still in shock. I’m grieving as I’m healing and as I’m fighting.”

She shared, “Cancer will take whatever you let it. It will take your soul, it’ll take your hair. And that might seem small to you, but it’s not. Cancer wants everything.”

In an article she wrote for the Today website, Martin mentioned Brooks as a source of support during the difficult time. “Honestly, I am doing OK. I have a loving husband, amazing family and friends and an incredible support system,” she wrote for Today.com in July 2023. “I have my head on straight and know exactly what needs to be done.”

She added, “Am I scared? Of course. Who wouldn’t be? But I know cancer has nothing on me. We lost my incredible grandmother to this disease because the science wasn’t there. But it is now, and I will know she is with me all the way.”

Martin continued to provide updates about her health journey and in March presented a “She Made It” interview segment on Today. She shared that it was her first segment after her cancer treatments ended. “I’m back, baby,” she said at the time.

Martin will kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with an announcement on Today on October 1, 2024.

“She wants to make sure no other family has to go through what hers did. She cannot thank everyone for all the messages of strength and support. She is excited for new beginnings, including a new company launching this month,” her rep told Page Six.
