United Malays National Organisation
United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) is a big political party in Malaysia, important since Malaysia became independent in 1957. It represents Malays and has been very powerful in Malaysian politics.
In recent years, UMNO has been criticized because its leaders, like Najib Razak, who was a big UMNO leader and former Prime Minister of Malaysia, were involved in the 1MDB scandal. This scandal made people worry about corruption and honesty in Malaysian politics, hurting UMNO's reputation.
On a positive note, Mahathir Mohamad, also a former UMNO leader and Prime Minister, is respected for improving Malaysia's economy and modernizing the country.
