Bill Slater (footballer)

William John Slater, CBE (29 April 1927 – 18 December 2018), also commonly known as W. J. Slater, was an English professional footballer. He was born in Clitheroe, Lancashire. Slater made the majority of his appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers from 1952 to 1963. He won three league championships and the FA Cup. From 1954 to 1960, he played for the England national football team.

Slater died on 18 December 2018 from complications of Alzheimer's disease in Brentford, Middlesex, aged 91.[1]
