The 2011 Myanmar earthquake was a 6.8 magnitude earthquake on March 24 in Shan State, Myanmar. Its hypocenter was 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) deep.[2] It had two aftershocks, one of magnitude 4.8, another at magnitude 5.4.[3] The quake's epicenter was 70 miles (110 km) from the northern Thai city of Chiang Rai, north of Mae Sai and southeast of Kentung.[4]

The Bangkok Post reported on 27 March 2011, that the death toll was "over 150", which is double the official figure of 75.[5]
