re: honor among thieves D&D MOVIE:
cannot stop thinking about Themberchaud
i love him
next movie should be entirely from his pov
yes
and Jack Black should do his voice and narrate the whole backstory
yes
yes
Themberchaud is free . . .
Y'all know he's evil, right?
EVIL CHONK
BAD CHONK
Ok, you have a point there--you're not wrong-- but that is why I want an actor who is really good at playing an immature jerk with a heart of gold who grows up enough to be better.
Themberchaud's backstory didn't give him a lot of options. Family history of Evil, also enslaved to Evil caretakers using him for Evil purposes. BUT, as of this movie, with no explanation, he has gotten free. What he does next is entirely up to him.
Maybe Themberchaud has had a moment of realizing that while Evil was ok by him when it was happening to someone else, it's not so good when it happens to you. Maybe he wants out.
And maybe, just maybe, the smack upside the head from a paladin was more than just a sword wound.
I think there's a story there.
I think there's a really good story there.
I want to believe it's possible.
Hmmmm....maybe....but....
In D&D, Chromatic dragons are evil aligned.
Are there any cases in DND lore of a chromatic dragon pulling a Drizzt and going against that?
I fully admit I have not played actual Dungeons and Dragons, with actual people, for close to 20 years...I've just played computer games. The closest to something like that I've seen happen is Deekin from Neverwinter Nights and he was not really a dragon, just a Kobold.
Ahhhh … THAT is the question I crave an answer for.
Years of discourse about whether species/racial alignment is an absolute, or just a suggestion.
I think D&D is growing beyond the absolutist essentialisms. Many players & GMs have for their homebrews. In some places, I thought Honor Among Thieves made good, deliberate steps forward in this.
I want to see more of it on screen: good and evil are what you do, not what you were born as.
If Themberchaud could make better life choices, anyone could.
Set them all free, Big Guy.
