Last Saturday, Dr Shang Yeap (Medical Oncologist) visited Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Dr Yeap’s talk, titled Understanding Lung Cancer, highlighted the signs and symptoms, risk factors, treatment options and latest advancements in treatments for lung cancer. The event titled Journeys to Overcome Lung Cancer, brought together cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones, fostering a supportive community for raising awareness and knowledge sharing. We are grateful for this opportunity in raising awareness about cancer in the region. Thank you to everyone who joined us in the session.

This week, Dr Choo Bok Ai, Radiation Oncologist, and Dr. Ooi Kai Yun, Clinical Oncologist from Icon Malaysia, were invited to the ‘Cancer Update 2024 – Innovations & Future Directions in Cancer Treatment’, organised by Murni Teguh Hospital. Dr Choo presented on ‘Advanced Radiation for Skull-Based Tumours’, while Dr. Ooi presented on ‘Perspective of Locally Advanced Nasopharyngeal Cancer’ to an audience of 200 specialists and healthcare professionals. They were joined by a diverse group of clinicians from Indonesia, Africa and India, contributing to discussions on innovations and future directions in cancer treatment. Thank you to the organisers and participants for creating a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration. Together, we are making strides towards advancing cancer care in the region.

Last week, our Medical Physicist, Dr Wei Loong Jong (PhD, Health/Medical Physics) had the privilege of speaking at the Johor Oncology Meeting 2024, where he presented on the "Introduction of Varian Eclipse Scripting". With around 230 attendees, including physicians, radiation therapists, medical physicists, and nurses from public hospitals across Malaysia, it was a great opportunity to share insights and foster collaboration in the field of oncology. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the engaging discussions. Together, we are making strides in radiation oncology for cancer care. 

Dr Guek Eng Lee, Medical Oncologist and Program Director of the Young Women Cancer Program, visited Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to share more about tips on cancer prevention, screening options available, and the latest advancements in treatments for cancer, with the public, including cancer survivors and their loved ones. Dr Lee’s visit is an example of Icon’s commitment to bridging the cancer gap in Southeast Asia through education and awareness. The informative session was followed by a Q&A segment, where Dr Lee welcomed audience questions, providing clarity and insights on key topics.  Thank you to everyone who joined us for this event!

Last weekend, Icon Oncology Malaysia proudly co-hosted the C-Star Malaysia-China Oncology Scholars Academic Forum with e-Doctors China, following the success of the first conference that was held in Singapore in July this year. This event brought together close to 40 distinguished oncologists from China, Malaysia and Singapore, creating a platform for cross-border collaboration and knowledge sharing. Dr Yew Oo Tan and Dr Bok Ai Choo from Icon Singapore presented on “Emerging frontiers in drug treatment of lung” and “Survival outcome using advanced radiation treatments in gynaecological cancers” respectively, alongside Dr Kai Yun Ooi from Icon Malaysia. This forum was a great opportunity for oncologists from the three countries to exchange knowledge and strengthen professional ties. We look forward to continuing these valuable exchanges and advancing cancer care in the region. #cancercare #oncology #medicalconference #scientificconference
