  • This year, YWLC started our Leadership Development Breakfast Club series, which aims to provide our community with insights from accomplished female leaders about their careers and leadership journeys. These sessions happen over authentic and raw conversations over the breakfast table. In our third edition, we explored the topic of “Career changes - Why, when and how”. Our 2 speakers, female leaders Jael Chng and Vanessa Iloste (she/her) shared on navigating career changes, with discussion on the why, when and how to make a successful and meaningful transition. Some of the learnings our YWLC community took away from the session: 💡Careers are very contextual, and one would need to consider the individual trade-offs 💡 Four competencies for career transitions which include: 1️⃣ Self-insight: Knowing who you are, your strengths, likes and dislikes 2️⃣ Decision-making: Whether you make decisions by gut or through a matrix (an analytical process) 3️⃣ Transition capabilities: How to manage change 4️⃣ Generating possibilities: How you can think about opportunities and new avenues Read more here! https://lnkd.in/g_qfXh5c

  • In our second run of the Leadership Development Breakfast Club held on 16 March, we covered the topic of “Navigating 360° Relationships at Work”. We heard from 2 established female leaders, Agnes Eymery and Stefanie Yuen Thio 张祉盈, on how to better manage all types of relationships at work - vertically, horizontally and cross-functionally. Our speakers shared their own learning experiences with us over the breakfast table and responded to the challenges our community faced. We learned about strategies to deal with different personality types, working and communication styles, and how to better navigate conflict and build greater trust in relationships at the workplace. In dealing with various personality types, we heard about the four archetypes of process-driven, mission-oriented, people pleasers, and creatives. On networking, we were introduced to thinking through the lens of a direct and indirect sphere of influence. Our direct sphere of influence will be our friends and close allies whom we will be able to trust and to nurture these relationships which will take time. The indirect sphere is an extension of the direct sphere, stemming from connections from the direct sphere. We were advised to develop clear personal branding and have a good balance between the direct and indirect spheres would help us to open doors.
