Last Saturday, our UWS STEM FEST was bustling with the spirit of inquisitivity and good vibes! 😍 We’re proud to share that we had close to 800 participants join us, with over 300 young women filling the rooms of our 8 STEM Workshops and receiving mentorship from our 78 speed mentors from our corporate partners. There were over 200 corporate and university partners at our 18 interactive booths and workshops who had spent the afternoon generously #STEMpowering not only these young women, but also over 100 parents, teachers and public who dropped by! 💪 Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Social and Family Development graced our festival with an intimate engagement with students from our STEM Programmes. To kick off the afternoon of discovery, Ms Sun shared an insightful keynote speech, highlighting the ways in which the Singapore government works towards achieving gender equality. With her encouraging and exuberant spirit, she wished our students well: “To the young innovators here today, I encourage you to seize every opportunity, embrace your curiosity, and never stop learning. The future is yours to create!” 💭 UWS STEM Fest would not have been a success without all the support from our partners, educators, and the public! 🙌 Shout-out to our Venue Partner Marina Bay Sands for hosting us to incubate new STEM beginnings with us!

What does it mean to empower girls to start and sustain their journey in today's STEM industries? 💭 We were honoured to share our research and work at CNA938’s Work It radio show with Cheryl Goh and Hui Wong. Our Immediate Past President Georgette Tan Adamopoulos was joined with Bhumika Sharma, APAC Payments Production Management Lead at J.P. Morgan, to discuss the journey of shaping women and young girls in STEM. 👏 A huge thank you to Bhumika, who was also a Speed Mentor at our UWS STEM FEST earlier this June, and J.P. Morgan for their unwavering and generous support over the years. Your dedication to this important cause has been nothing short of admirable! Shout out CNA938 for spotlighting our STEM Programmes earlier, and for giving us a platform to showcase our efforts in launching young women and girls into the world of STEM. 🚀 Listen to the conversation here: https://lnkd.in/gu9yJcqi If you and your organization are eager to impact the future of female leaders in STEM, drop us an email at [email protected]!

Earlier in June, we were joined by over 60 enthusiastic peer support leaders from ITE-College Central for stress management session. 🧘🏻♂️✨ During this session, the leaders were equipped with tools to not only manage their own stress, but better understand how they can uplift their peers during challenging times. The interactive session saw the students discuss the common stressors faced by them and learn the best practices to support their peers with the help of valuable resources available within the school community and beyond. Thank you Devanantthan (Devan) Mental ACT for conducting such an insightful session with the students! 🫡

Last week, we had the honour of being amongst brilliant minds and hearts at the Women’s Forum. The 2-day forum had discussions around women's voices and places in a wide variety of realms - from the built environment and online worlds to reproductive health, climate change and more. Themed Tech as a Vector of Inclusion, the forum platformed discussions that centred the voices of women leaders. Day 2’s ‘Conversation with a Leader’ featured Minister of State Ms Sun Xueling’s thoughts on technology from the government’s perspective. The plenary session ‘Diversifying Pathways into STEM and Fostering Tomorrow’s Innovators’ was close to our mission as an organisation, and it featured the voices of leaders like Sapna Chadha, Yoke Sin Chong, Omuoy heang, and Michelle Khoo. Both these conversations were moderated by our President Georgette Tan Adamopoulos. Ever grateful to the team at Women's Forum for the Economy & Society (A Publicis Groupe company) for the well-organised event of important conversations for women and the world of today! Happy International Women In Engineering Day! — a day dedicated to honouring the achievements of women in engineering and recognizing the powerful bonds and collaborations that drive innovation! 🔥 In light of this, I would like to thank United Women Singapore for organizing the annual UWS STEM Fest earlier this month! It was an enriching opportunity for girls like myself to explore careers in STEM and network with professionals in the industry. I greatly enjoyed the conversation I had with Ms Michelle Low from The Boeing Company on her experience in the aviation sector during the speed-mentoring session, as well as learning about SLB’s latest technologies from Linyuan Zhan and Jollie Liyi Qiu!

Singapore’s Minister Of State, Ministry of Home Affairs and Social and Family Development, Member of Parliament for Punggol West SMC

Had the pleasure of meeting students and educators at United Women Singapore STEM Fest. This annual event showcases trends in the emerging STEM landscape and skills and knowledge needed in STEM careers. Glad to see more than 600 participants at the event. This year’s festival is “Bridging Gaps, Building Futures” – it speaks of the need to bridge gaps in the STEM industry to encourage it to be more gender inclusive. Students participated in interactive activities and took part in a speed mentoring segment. I was inspired by the many young women who shared with me about their passions in various fields of STEM, and their dreams for the future.

Ignited minds is the perfect caption to describe the visitors at our #UWS interactive booth. We showcased Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), MARVL Lab's robot capabilities in the land, water and air domains. Our amazing team of student volunteers made the interactions even more impactful for young (by age and at heart) students :)) A huge thanks to Jeslyn, Benny, Shruti, Swasti, Shruti, Varshini and Chewon. Special shout out to the #UWS team Georgette, Anupama and Madhavi for their awesome work for girls in STEM. #sutd #uws #stem #robots #ai #ml #girls

Earlier this month, our girls were invited to a Communications and Negotiation Workshop conducted by Aquila Clean Energy APAC! They were armed with the skills they needed to shine in the workforce and beyond, where they mastered effective communication, nailed interview techniques, and learnt how to boost their confidence. They’ve also become negotiation pros, ready to take on any challenge and leverage their talents for success. A huge shoutout to the team at Aquila Clean Energy APAC who made this possible! Let's keep the momentum going and continue to empower our girls to become the leaders of tomorrow! 🚀💪
