To eliminate plastic leakage by 2040, an estimated US$2.1 trillion is needed to bolster downstream initiatives in waste management infrastructure and align financing with projects. AIIB aims to facilitate the efficient mobilisation of capital by matching project pipelines with technical expertise and concessional financial resources. This is done via external partners through AIIB+, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’s pioneering digital platform for concessional financing. By streamlining these connections, partnerships are created to bridge gaps, build futures and deliver concessional financing to AIIB Members. As pioneering participants, we look forward to collaborations with development finance institution partners like AIIB to accelerate progress towards the infrastructure needed to end plastic waste globally. We envision a world without plastic waste in the environment, driven by a functioning circular economy.
About us
We envision a world without plastic waste in the environment, driven by a functioning circular economy. We consider ourselves a global laboratory for sustainable solutions helping to get closer to that vision. Our experience and know-how draw from the unique context of more than 50 projects. We de-risk, develop and deploy new technologies, business models and solutions for solving plastic waste leakage in the environment. But this alone is not enough. Ending plastic waste is complex and will require systemic change, driven by all of us. That is why we, as a global non-profit, convene more than 70 companies across the plastic value chain with local communities, civil society groups, intergovernmental organisations, and governments. Together, we are finding solutions that are environmentally friendly, socially acceptable and economically viable. In South Africa, 3.67 million tonnes of waste go uncollected annually. To drive forward plastic waste management efforts in South Africa and the wider Sub-Saharan region, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Unilever Health South Africa at the recent ISWA World Congress. The collaboration aims to enhance the collection, management, and recycling of waste, while also pursuing innovative solutions and funding opportunities to advance a circular economy for plastics. Profitable and good for the environment — that's what waste management can be, believes Arun Shende, founder of Shende Resource Management in Pandhurna, India. With support from the Let’s Transform initiative, launched in partnership with Saahas Zero Waste, Arun established his city's first waste management facility in his city. The initiative helps informal waste workers become micro-entrepreneurs while improving the recovery of low-value plastics. #EndPlasticWaste #CircularEconomy #SolutionsForChange #progress #wastemanagement #sustainability #collaboration #India #LetsTransform

The European Parliament's recent Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation sets ambitious recycled content targets for plastic packaging. Yet, only 5% of plastic packaging is sourced from post-consumer recycled content as of 2019. How can we bridge this gap? Join us at the upcoming Recycling Expo where Martyn Tickner, Chief Advisor, Circular Solutions, will discuss the critical success factors behind improving the quality and quantities of recycling feedstock as well as the economic considerations behind enabling the systems change needed to help brand owners meet PPWR requirements. 📍 ExCel London 📅 15-16 October 2024 Register for complimentary tickets: https://lnkd.in/gvqffdz6 Learn more about the event: https://lnkd.in/ehvergRt #RecyclingExpo24 #EndPlasticWaste #CircularEconomy #Recycling #PlasticWaste #WasteManagement

The path towards plastic circularity starts at the drawing board. Designing products and packaging with circularity in mind helps keep plastic in circulation for longer, minimising waste and environmental impact. When design prioritises reduction, reusability, recyclability, and recovery, it can be part of the plastic waste solution. Learn more about designing for circularity and its crucial role in closing the loop for plastics in our carousel. #EndPlasticWaste #CircularEconomy #DesignForCircularity #recycling

By 1 January 2030, all plastic packaging on the European Union market must be recyclable and recycled at scale by 2035. To achieve this, collection, sorting and recycling performance for different packaging types will need to be significantly improved. ‘Intelligent Packaging’ in the form of digital watermarks can enable higher granularity of sorting of packaging waste at scale and at higher efficiency. Recently, the project also successfully validated digital watermarking technology from Digimarc and Pellenc ST, paired with Near Infrared (NIR) imaging, for advanced sorting of flexible packaging. This method has proved effective at separating hygiene-grade LDPE and food-grade PP films, potentially enabling higher-quality recycling streams at an efficiency not currently possible with other technologies.
