About us

The Singapore Furniture Industries Council (SFIC) is established since 1981 as the official representative body of Singapore’s furniture and furnishings industry. It has a membership of over 350 companies, spanning across five key industry clusters: furniture manufacturers, interior fit-out specialists, retailers, designers and materials/components/services providers. Collectively, our industry players have a global footprint in over 80 countries todate. As an aggregator and multiplier in the furniture ecosystem, the SFIC’s vision is to position the Singapore furniture industry as the nexus of tomorrow’s work-life integration for sustainable urban living. SFIC’s priority initiatives include internationalisation, design development, business innovation, digitalisation and sustainability to enable members to stay future-ready and competitive while upgrading enterprise and human capital capabilities within the industry. Nurturing the NexGen industry leaders under the SFIC Young Leaders Chapter is also of paramount importance. SFIC ‘s talent and training development arm is the SFIC Institute, which conducts a holistic range of courses, masterclasses, manpower placement programmes and consultancy services for the furniture ecosystem and built environment. The SFIC also represents Singapore in the ASEAN Furniture Industries Council (AFIC), with the aim of further strengthening intra-ASEAN trade and its competitive advantage in the global market. www.singaporefurniture.com

  • American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) has been at the forefront of global wood promotion for over 30 years, successfully building a distinctive and creative brand for US hardwoods. AHEC’s support for creative design projects demonstrates the performance potential of these sustainable materials and provides valuable inspiration. AHEC collaborates with North American producers and industry bodies to ensure supply-chain transparency, carbon neutrality, and ecological health. Key tools include the Life Cycle Assessment tool for calculating environmental impact, the American Hardwood Environmental Profile (AHEP) for providing consolidated environmental data, and the Interactive Forest Map for tracking forest volumes. Supported by studies like the Seneca Creek Associates report, these tools uphold the environmental integrity of American hardwoods and highlight their sustainability. • SFIC Exclusive Closed-Door Roundtable Discussion: Thriving in Dubai’s D33 Economic Agenda. This morning, SFIC hosted an exclusive closed-door roundtable to explore opportunities within Dubai’s ambitious D33 Economic Agenda. We had 17 participants representing 15 organizations participated in this roundtable. The session focused on how Singapore furniture companies can strategically integrate into Dubai’s evolving economic landscape, with a particular emphasis on urban development, innovation, and sustainability. The discussion was both engaging and insightful, covering critical topics such as manpower challenges, labor costs, ease of doing business in the UAE, and legal considerations. Our participants actively contributed to a robust Q&A session, bringing forward key concerns and opportunities. A special thanks to our partners: Chris K. of BDO Consultants Pte Ltd, who graciously hosted us in their boardroom, and Leonard Thangavelu, PBM from Dubai Chambers, whose invaluable insights shed light on the dynamic business environment in Dubai. We’re excited about the next chapter—stay tuned for our upcoming roundtable in September, where we’ll be hosting a delegation from India visiting Singapore.

  • Congratulations to SCCCI on the successful launch of the TACOM Transformation Centre! Supported by Enterprise Singapore, this marks a significant milestone in strengthening the trade association (TA) community. As our SFIC president, Phua Boon Huat shared in a video during the launch event, partnerships with SCCCI and other TACs offer invaluable benefits. The TA Hub @ Jurong Town Hall Road is a testament to these synergies. By co-locating at the Hub, SFIC has forged stronger relationships, explored new collaborations, and streamlined operations. Membership in TACOM has also proven invaluable for addressing industry challenges. Recognising that most trade associations operate with limited resources, the TACOM Transformation Centre will provide solutions and a platform for sharing best practices in key areas like digitalisation, sustainability, and internationalisation. Together, we aim to uplift the capabilities of TAs and foster greater collaborations within the sector. We look forward to the positive impact this initiative will have on our industry! https://lnkd.in/geYfVS-r

Our participants enjoyed a first-hand tour of the advanced manufacturing lab, where they explored cutting-edge technologies that could shape the future of our industry. The session was enriching and inspiring, offering our members a deeper understanding of advanced manufacturing and materials and the opportunity to forge meaningful connections during the networking session. A big thank you to Alex THOE, Deputy Director, A*Star SIMTECH, and his team for hosting us and making such wonderful arrangements. • As we conclude our four-day business visits in Indonesia and touch down back in Singapore, we carry with us a deep appreciation for the country’s furniture industry - brimming with potential, rich in heritage, creativity and craftsmanship. Jakarta, Jogja, Solo, and Semarang each offered unique perspectives, showcasing diverse design aesthetics, manufacturing expertise and a genuine commitment to cultural authenticity. The opportunities for meaningful collaboration and innovation here are truly significant. Beyond business exchanges, what also touched us was the heartfelt warmth and hospitality we experienced at every stop. From ASMINDO to its industry leaders and partners, we were welcomed with open arms. The thoughtful arrangements and sincere warmth are woven into the very fabric of the industry and reflect the heart and soul of this nation. Our warm appreciation goes to our supporting partners: Enterprise Singapore, our SFIC Advisor Ms Chew Mok Lee, ASMINDO Chairman Pak Dedy Rochimat, Deputy General Secretary Pak Yogi Anindya Putra, the Board of Management and Secretariat of ASMINDO in Jakarta, Jogja, Solo, and Semarang for their strong guidance and support throughout. This business mission has been rewarding, providing valuable insights, promising leads, and potential opportunities. Let’s build on the momentum. Looking forward to returning for the IFFINA - Indonesia Meubel & Design Expo organised by ASMINDO from 14-17 September 2024.
