THIS IS BIG, BABY!🎉 At the National Day Rally, PM Wong announced that by April 1, 2026, Singapore parents will get 30 weeks of parental leave, and from April 1, 2025, companies must approve paternity leave!    Our FLEX APPEAL report (https://shorturl.at/PPn4j) discussed the importance of such policies for balancing childcare, and attendees at our SHE Dialogues with Minister K Shanmugam in March and June also called for more equal parental leave.　BUT: our research shows challenges remain—many dads hesitate to take paternity leave due to concerns about impact on promotion, with fathers twice as likely as mothers to face backlash (Fathers: 20%, Mothers: 10%). Additionally, 3 in 10 dads felt their help wasn’t needed at home.   While this new policy is a positive step, a LOT still depends on shifting gender mindsets and corporate cultures. Six in 10 of participants in MDDI's poll who encountered harmful content online ignored it. One in three said they did so because they were unconcerned - stats that should make ALL of us concerned. These findings echo trends observed in SHE's studies on the normalisation of harmful online. In our 2023 study on online harms (i.e., acts committed by bad actors online such as image-based sexual abuse, doxxing, impersonation etc), we found one in five survivors were unaffected. When harm is normalised, it's no wonder many who are actually affected downplay what they experience - many who did not take action in our survey said it was because what they experienced was not "serious enough" or they did not want to make the matter into a "big deal." The reality is, however, that we should take a stand against harmful content and conduct. No harm is too small.
