A brand new station for a historic residential estate in Singapore's east coast. The entrances of Siglap MRT station feature stone walls inspired by its surrounding housing developments, integrating the station into the neighbourhood. In 2022, 28.9% of global carbon emissions came from the industrial sector. Speaking at Surbana Jurong Group's China-Singapore International Forum on Sustainable Development, Senior Executive Director Michael Leong explained how designing urban developments, like Jurong Lake District and Bulim Square, for connectivity, livability, and versatility can significantly reduce emissions from the sector. Michael was also part of a panel that discussed the sustainable development of cities and industrial parks. Congratulations to our senior advisor Edward D'Silva on receiving the Meritorious Service Medal at the National Day Awards! The award recognises individuals for their exceptional long service to Singapore. Edward (pictured on the right) is most recently known as the former chairman of the Public Hygiene Council, where he rallied communities to take greater initiative in Singapore's cleanliness for over a decade. For many years at SAA, Edward led the design and construction of several local developments and was instrumental in raising our global presence by spearheading our foray into Southeast Asia and India. Today, Edward continues to provide guidance as SAA's senior advisor, while also serving on the board of several prominent institutions. Happy 59th Birthday, Singapore! We are proud to play a part in nation building through our people. Meet Isaac Tan, Senior Associate from 9am to 5pm and avid runner from 5pm to 9am. At SAA, Isaac is part of the project team, where he works with various teams of consultants, contractors, and clients to ensure that buildings are executed on site, effectively delivered, and coordinated across multi-disciplines. Having participated in marathons, he spends his after-work hours unwinding with regular evening runs. "The demands of complex project delivery can be similar to long-distance running, where weather and terrain can change unexpectedly in the course of the run. Adapting to these conditions reminds me to stay flexible, build resilience, and manage life's uncertainties and challenges with a positive mindset. I have also been well-trained to run after my two children!" At SAA, Phoebe is part of the design team, shaping the spaces of tomorrow. Having learnt four musical instruments during her childhood, she now spends her after-work hours connecting with her love for music through dance. "Music is a timeless platform for self-expression. Likewise, architecture gives me the privilege to express empathy towards different communities. I see each project as a learning opportunity to better understand different users and contexts, allowing me to design meaningful spaces for people to live and interact in." One of the first MRT stations to provide underground parking spaces for cyclists, the new Marine Terrace station simplifies the last-mile commute. Features that further blur the lines between what is above ground and under, such as the replication of stone materials from the station's entrance to its concourse and the glass openings over the entrance escalators, provide commuters with a comforting sense of continuity.
