As Black History Month concluded last week in the UK, we reflect on its importance in honouring Black contributions locally and globally. This year’s theme, Reclaiming Narratives, inspired us to highlight overlooked achievements and address historical inaccuracies in Black history. October kicked off with a special event co-sponsored by BMS, featuring historian and filmmaker David O.. Throughout the month, we engaged in impactful discussions on diversity and representation in the UK insurance industry, culminating in a Caribbean-themed lunch celebrating diversity. We're also proud to have signed the Race at Work Charter, reinforcing our commitment to racial equity and equal opportunity. Thanks to our organising committee - Keriann B., Graeme Allison, Priscilla Burden (née Osibona), ACII, Sean tibby, and Steven Arnes - and all who participated. Louise Rothschild, BMS’s Director of Cargo & Stock Throughput, was recently awarded the Cargo Market “Broker of the Year” at the annual London Cargo Market Dinner. The event is organised to support charities, with this year’s funds going to The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), a charity saving lives at sea, and BEAMS, a charity dedicated to supporting children with additional needs.
