The family business that lasts 🇸🇬 There is a key cultural difference between Asian and Western business families. "In Asia, the family holds the business together. In the West, the business holds the family together. Family is everything in Asia; people know their frst and second cousins. In the West, people know their frst and second cousins because of the business.'' If your family business is facing similar challenges with its operations, a trusted partner can help. Manufacturing Is Facing A Real-Life Succession Crisis 👩🏭 Manufacturing is on the precipice of an immense turnover in leadership, as the boomer generation approaches retirement and considers their companies’ futures. As a startup founder juggling the demands of business, family, and self-care, I found myself in a whirlwind of challenges this week. After surviving sleepless nights with my sick son, it was now my daughter's and mom's turn to fall ill. Life as an entrepreneur is never short of surprises! This morning, as my wife stepped out for errands, I became the sole guardian of our little princess. The moment she realized mommy was gone, the house erupted with screams that could rival a rock concert. Despite my best efforts to console her, my presence seemed as comforting as a cactus in a pillow fight. When Work Meets Family 👪 In the midst of this chaos, I had a crucial seller meeting scheduled - a video call with a retiring owner in Australia. As I prepared to dive into our company's vision and #mergersandacquisitions strategy, my daughter decided it was the perfect time to make her debut in the corporate world. To my surprise and relief, our potential partners showed incredible empathy when I explained my current family situation. It was a powerful reminder that behind every business deal, there are real people with real lives and challenges. As the meeting progressed, I found myself engaging in high-stakes negotiations - not with the seller, but with my daughter. "Five more minutes," I pleaded. She agreed, showing more leniency than some venture capitalists I've met. When she declared "Time's up!" I resorted to tactics that would make any seasoned negotiator proud: "How about 20 seconds and an ice cream reward?" (Note to self: offering ice cream to a sick child might not be my brightest idea.) Despite the interruptions and impromptu negotiations, we successfully concluded the meeting. The seller and broker were receptive to our vision, proving that authenticity and vulnerability can sometimes be our greatest strengths in business. After the call, we met my wife at the mall. Spotting my favorite electric massage chair, I couldn't resist asking for "just 5 minutes" of self-care. It's incredible how these small moments of respite can recharge us amidst the startup hustle. Lessons Learned: This experience reinforced some valuable lessons for me as both a founder and a parent: 1. Authenticity builds stronger connections, even in business. 2. Flexibility is key - in strategies, schedules, and expectations. 3. Self-care isn't a luxury; it's a necessity for sustainable success. 4. Our children often show us more patience than we realize. As I navigate the choppy waters of #startuplife and parenthood, I'm grateful for these moments that ground me and remind me of what truly matters. To all the founder-parents out there: you're not alone in this beautiful chaos. Let's continue to support each other and celebrate our multifaceted journeys. #entrepreneurlife #worklifebalance #startupfounderstories #parentingandcareer #familylegacy #succession #wealthpreservarion

Culture is Key in Family Firm Mergers and Acquisitions 🤝 With the economic downturn of the past three years, opportunities for mergers and acquisitions as growth strategies—or exit strategies—have increased. This trend impacts family businesses on both ends of the deal: as buyers and sellers of business “synergies”—the advantages of combining businesses (usually financial). While the family firm’s cultural distinctiveness is an asset that does not typically appear on the books, preserving these valuable and central aspects of a family firm should be considered in the midst of these transactions. Having some consideration for the synergies between cultures is important to ensure success for the businesses, the founding families and the communities in which they have lived and worked. If your family business is facing similar challenges with its operations, a trusted partner can help. A rollercoaster week has reminded me of the delicate balance between family and work, filled with unexpected challenges and surprising triumphs. It all began when my son fell ill, battling a high fever that kept us up until 3 AM, monitoring his temperature with worried hearts. As the days passed, we discovered he had caught Influenza, leading to a new set of hurdles. Ironically, the medication prescribed for our little one cost more than his prized LEGO Lamborghini set. Yet, despite its hefty price tag, our son stubbornly refused to take it. In the midst of his tears and our attempts to soothe him, a moment of clarity struck. We realized that sometimes, it's okay to let our children express their emotions freely. What followed was a 15-minute sobbing session that taught us a valuable lesson about emotional expression, challenging the notion of bottling up feelings – a struggle I've personally faced growing up. As family took center stage, work commitments inevitably took a backseat. Meetings were cancelled as I struggled to focus, my mind constantly drifting to my son's wellbeing. However, this experience highlighted the strength of having a supportive team. Despite my limited involvement, our team's progress was nothing short of stellar. We received news of a new MOU signed with an accepted offer, welcomed a fresh intern to our team in Japan, and an exciting new deal appeared on the horizon. To top it off, we're on the brink of launching a key tech measure in our M&A operations. This challenging week has reinforced the importance of work-life balance and the value of a strong support system, both at home and in the workplace. It's a poignant reminder that while career achievements are important, family always comes first. As we head into the weekend, we're embracing every moment with those who matter most in our lives. After all, it's these experiences – both the trials and the triumphs – that shape our journey and make it truly meaningful. So here we are, ready to enjoy the weekend and cherish every moment of our life journey with those who matter most. Because in the end, it's not just about weathering the storms, but also celebrating the rainbows that follow. #WorkLifeBalance #EmployeeWellbeing #LeadershipLessons

As I reflect on the journey to founding AVARY, I see a decade-long path filled with challenges, failures, learning, and growth. AVARY may seem like a newly established startup, but it is the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance, and a deep understanding of the world of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and the global succession crisis. #succession #mergersandacquisitions #impactinvestment
