- Justine’s. Justine’s first opened its doors in 1958. For the next 37 years, this Memphis institution was the premier fine dining restaurant in town. Owner Justine Smith served French cuisine with a New Orleans twist in a Victorian mansion at 919 Coward Place that had just as much character as the food.
- Grisanti’s Restaurant. The Grisanti name is synonymous with Italian food in Memphis. Since 1909, members of the Grisanti family have been serving their Northern Italian fare at various restaurants across town.
- Anderton’s East. Since its opening in 1956, Anderton’s East was the place to go for oysters and steaks. Opened by Herbert Anderton and later run by his son, this midtown institution was also known for its distinctive seafoam green color scheme and kitschy nautical decor.
- Aubergine. Gene and Juliana Bjorklund opened Aubergine in 1993 in a tiny spot on the first floor of a building on Black Road in East Memphis. Having trained in Europe, Gene created a menu that had a French flair.

- Arcade Restaurant. The Arcade Restaurant serves up more than just a classic breakfast–for some, it’s part of a pilgrimage. The Arcade was opened in 1919 by Speros Zapatos and is still run by the 4th generation of the Zepatos family.
- Beauty Shop. Located at the heart of the walkable Cooper-Young neighborhood, the Beauty Shop offers a delectable up-scale dining experience for weekend brunch, lunch, and dinner.
- Bishop. When Bishop opened inside the newly renovated Central Station Hotel, it brought a new class of fine dining to downtown Memphis. Chefs Andy Ticer and Micahel Hudman are famous in Memphis for their upscale European fare, and in Bishop’s case, you’ll find the best of French cooking fused with a Southern flair.
- Central BBQ. One of Central BBQ’s slogans is that smoke is their sauce. This means that they make great use of the local hickory and pecan wood available to slow-roast all their meats to fall-off-the-bone perfection.
