  1. Mar 12, 2023 · For years I thought Apocalypse Now was overly drawn out, tangential nonsense with Marlon Brando talking about snails crawling along a twig for 20 minutes at the end. That’s because I had been (I think incorrectly told) that Redux and Final Cut were better than the Theatrical Cut. Theatrical is a lean, mean heavy weight champion of war movies.

  2. Jun 13, 2020 · Apocalypse Now is one of those movies like Blade Runner where so many different versions exist that it's hard to know which is the 'definitive' one to watch. I'd argue that Apocalypse Now is one of the more confusing examples of this, because it's unclear which is Francis Ford Coppola's preferred version, and which is the most well-liked ...

  3. Apocalypse Now is very clearly and deliberately an updated version of Joseph Conrad's The Heart of Darkness. It even uses several of the same names, and has the same key line, "The horror! The horror!" Both are fundamentally about Man's capacity for evil, and especially our own capacity for leading ourselves into it.

  4. The Playboy bunny scene, the plantation scene all adds to the overall inexplicable experience that I sometimes struggle to put in words. But like other posters said here, start with the Theatrical Cut -- that's the "film". Watch Apocalypse Now the Film. Go for the Redux if you want Apocalypse Now the Experience. 1.

  5. Aug 3, 2020 · This is not a conventional military operation. Kurtz is mad and nihilistic. He's not especially interested in prolonging his life. He is driven mad by the horrors of war and loses any sense of his previous values being meaningful. He chooses instead to indulge in the horror. He hates the world and hates himself.

  6. Aug 23, 2012 · The original cut is much better than Redux. Redux doesn't add anything worthwhile to the film besides unnecessary shots of tits. The added scenes also throw off the pacing, and one particular scene at a mansion completely ruins the atmosphere. The non-redux version is near flawless. 28.

  7. Apocalypse Now takes those ideas and applies them to the US involvement of the Vietnam war and done in a way that is surreal. It’s not a ‘boots on a ground let’s do for the home team’ war movie. It’s a protest, a political statement, and a critique of America’s involvement in that war and horrors it did to people. Reply reply.

  8. As the title suggests, I've never seen Apocalyse Now. However, after my entire 28 years of life people telling me I needed to see it, I decided to get the 4K Collectors Edition - "All three versions of this film are available on this 6 disc release including Apocalypse Now: The Final Cut, Apocalypse Now: Theatrical Cut, and Apocalypse Now Redux Extended Cut."

  9. The photos were taken as props for the movie Apocalypse Now. She was going to be Miss May, one of three PM's that make a show for the soldiers. The poster was shoot by the great Pompeo Posar and it appears in a couple of scenes. Before Lynda could finish her scenes a typhoon destroyed the sets.

  10. Apocalypse Now captured the insanity. A subtle distinction, to be sure, but an important one. There are other films that portray the futility of war from the perspective of the platoon level soldier, but Apocalypse Now treats war - and the Vietnam War in particular - as an insane undertaking so divorced from reality it seems like a drug trip.
