UPPDATERAD LIFE SCIENCE-STRATEGI!

Not “Why?”, but “HOW?” This is the most common question we hear from Swedish companies seeking to do business in Ukraine. ❤️ 💙 “With a hot heart but a cold head” is the short answer – but as for details, consider the report below. You will get insights on: ➡️ Where the money comes from for various restoration programs relevant for healthcare, and which entities can initiate the release of funds; ➡️ How agency procurement and Ukrainian public procurement work; ➡️ The part of MPU in centralised programs; ➡️ Why it is worth engaging the Ukrainian private healthcare facilities and the DTC channel; ➡️ The unique and critical role of Ukrainian NGOs in supplying hospitals. This document is for sharing – so if you find it useful, please spread it to your network. For questions on the report, please turn to us at the Swedish Support to Sustainable Healthcare in Ukraine Project and Anastasia Flanagan.

🏥 We all want better healthcare, don’t we? Working in life science, there are even more things we wish of the system: we would like it to be open and transparent, accepting of new treatment options, and governed by clear rules that are the same for everybody. We want smart hospitals which are able to plan their outlays years in advance so we can make a competitive offer, and a continuity of care throughout a person’s life, so we can develop solutions matching the evolving needs. A wartime economy turns that vision upside down – and yet, does it really? Despite the Russian invasion, in Ukraine today there is: ☑️ A developed healthcare system of over 10,000 facilities ☑️ A modern legal framework and governing bodies – the Ministry of Health, National Health Service and Medical Procurement of Ukraine ☑️ A reimbursement system that signifies a clear departure from the legacy centralised management approach ☑️ Transparent procurement pathways via public tenders, NGOs and international agencies ☑️ A health workforce that is educated, innovative and resilient. Join us on this deep-dive into the Ukrainian healthcare system and its stakeholders! Brought to you by the Swecare project “Support to Sustainable Healthcare in Ukraine”, Kateryna Pavelko.

🤝 A living and breathing agreement: Memorandum of Understanding brings Ukrainian doctors to Karolinska University Hospital Five Ukrainian doctors from Kriviy Rih City Clinical Hospital #2 completed a two-week internship at KU Hospital last week. Viacheslav Sichkar commented on his experience in the delegation: “Inspired by the multidisciplinary collaboration between rhinologists and neurosurgeons, we hope to introduce skull base surgery in our hospital. This visit has truly become a source of inspiration for us to continue our work, even in the difficult conditions of war.” ✔ During these weeks, the Swecare team organized meetings between the Ukrainian doctors and representatives of the Swedish private healthcare sector. Our old and new colleagues from Centigo, Elekta, Aneheim Consulting, Xinix, and Getinge learned firsthand about the needs of this large hospital in eastern Ukraine that provides medical care to up to 8,000 persons a year, working without interruption 100 km from the front line. 💙 💛 We are grateful to the representatives of Karolinska University Hospital Anna-Maria Svensson and Fevzi ÖZTÜRK for organizing the visit and taking care of our Ukrainian doctors: Kostiantyn Haltcev, anesthesiologist; Nazar Kudlaienko, neurosurgeon; Viacheslav Sichkar, ENT doctor, Anna Timchak, audiologist; and Angelica Tomamsheva, medical director of the Kriviy Rih City Hospital. Special thanks go to Staffan Ostlund and colleagues at Centigo and to Getinge’s team of Cecilia Sjöstedt, Johan Widman, Miray K. Kärnekull, MD, Daniel M, for their engagement both personal and professional. #Swecare_for_UA

😐 Making next year's plan when the left wing of your hospital is a pile of rubble… An impossible reality that many managers of Ukrainian hospitals face today, included but not limited to: 🏘️ power outages and fragile supply chains, 👨🔬 shortages of essential staff, 🩸 massive influx of patients with multiple and severe injuries, to name but a few factors on the minds of Ukrainian hospital managers. With this as a background, how does the system not only remain operational, but continue to innovate and follow the Medical reform designed before the war? ⬇️ Seems like we have a lesson or two to learn from Ukraine. No rain on our parade! 🌧️🎉 Yesterday, the skies over Stockholm may have opened up, but at Swecare, the atmosphere was all warmth, collaboration, and excitement! 🌟 As part of the Swedish Support for Sustainable Healthcare in Ukraine project, we launched two new reports: one diving into the Ukrainian healthcare system and the other exploring funding opportunities for businesses interested in the UA market. Authored by Anastasia Flanagan and Kateryna Pavelko, these reports show that Ukraine is more than a recipient of humanitarian aid, but also a promising, albeit not simple, case for real business, mutually beneficial exchange of experience and knowledge, sustainable development and sustainable interaction between Sweden and Ukraine. 🌍 We were thrilled to host 50+ passionate people from large companies, startups, NGOs, and government agencies, Ukrainians and Swedes alike, all driven by a thirst for knowledge, collaboration, and taking action to build stronger, more sustainable futures for both countries. 🤝 Project pitches par excellence were delivered by AstraZeneca, Fillauer Europe, OneMed Sverige, ImagineCare, Act Church Sweden, and 1forUkraine! 🎤 We are sincerely grateful to Magnus Blomberg, Oskar Söderlund, Masoud Jadidi, Daniel R., Karolina Göranzon, Anders Soxbo, and Jonas Hård af Segerstad for their openness and invaluable support! 🙏✨ Missed the event?
