At the center of ROYC Group is our remarkable team, capturing the true spirit of our company. Meet Luiz Socrate, our talented Senior Software Engineer at our Stockholm Office. 𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝. My education was a mix of formal Chemistry and Design, with a good dose of early internet hacking. A study of the systems of matter, perception, and data. I cut my teeth on Accenture in Brazil, and after gaining some experience I spent about 5 years as a freelancer working with Silicon Valley startups. In 2017 I moved to Sweden and joined Klarna to work on the team that built the foundation for their AI customer service platform. After leaving Klarna I was the head of engineering at a Swedish startup tackling the sustainability challenges in the food industry. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐎𝐘𝐂? The whole company is a team with the highest commitment and dedication, and no space for stuffiness. The openness and friendliness in the team is disarming. Put together, it makes an atmosphere where we could do anything and it would be fun. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮? I love to create things that are useful and spark joy. We can find those qualities in places we would never expect, and often those surprises turn out to be most meaningful. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐧𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤? This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming our intern Melissa Aghassi, who has been a fantastic addition to our team at ROYC Group. Melissa is currently pursuing a dual Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Political Science at Stockholm University. We had a conversation with Melissa to gain insight into her experience with us: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐎𝐘𝐂? I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside driven colleagues and supportive mentors who have turned this opportunity into an exceptional learning experience. The team at ROYC is not only talented but also incredibly collaborative and encouraging, which has made my time there truly rewarding. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞? A key lesson I've learned is the value of embracing the element of surprise by staying proactive. Not knowing what the next task will be keeps things exciting and challenging, but it also underscores the importance of being prepared and maintaining clear communication. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫? The internship has given me the opportunity to work across various departments, including legal, investments, tech, and marketing, which has equipped me with a well-rounded skill set. Meeting driven people from different backgrounds has also broadened my perspective, which I value greatly for my future career. I was formerly employed at UniCredit (Vienna and Prague), Raiffeisen Bank International AG (Vienna), and J.P. Morgan (London). I have held several positions, including heading the Corporate Finance Advisory department in the Czech Republic and Slovakia during my tenure at UniCredit. I have also earned academic credentials, including a degree from WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) and an MBA from SDA Bocconi in Milan. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫? As a corporate finance and M&A advisor with over 20 years of experience, primarily in Europe, I thrive on working across borders and adapting to new challenges. Simon is currently pursuing his Master's Degree in Engineering Physics with a specialization in Machine Intelligence at Lund University, and has been instrumental in supporting our tech projects over the past few months. We sat down with Simon to learn more about his experience with us: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐎𝐘𝐂? During my internship at ROYC, I've most enjoyed the collaborative and supportive culture. The people here are incredibly friendly and always willing to help, which has made it a great environment for learning and growth. Whether it's solving a technical challenge or discussing broader industry trends, the open communication and teamwork have been truly rewarding.
