Last Friday the SARQA board was gathered for a F2F meeting in Umeå. We got an introduction by Peter Jacobsson on the functions of, and activities at, Umeå Biotech Incubator, held our meeting for planning future SARQA-events – primarily the autumn meeting on October 17th – look out for the agenda! On our way to lunch we visited Diamyd Medical where Maja Johansson informed on the progress of the Drug Substance manufacturing facility. After lunch a walk and talk meet on future SARQA priorities at the Skulpturparken (https://lnkd.in/db5E5vcq) before getting back for final discussions. A really productive day and nice to be able to show a piece of Umeå at the same time! / Maria Åhman

The US FDA has agreed to fast track a vaccine designed to prevent type 1 diabetes! -- This isn’t approval, but it’s a big step forward for Diamyd. That’s the name of the medication and the company, Diamyd Medical. On the podcast this week, we’ll talk about their clinical trials. I am thrilled to announce that Diamyd Medical has received positive feedback from the FDA regarding an Accelerated Approval pathway for our #precisionmedicine #immunotherapy, Diamyd®, designed to treat patients with Stage 3 Type 1 Diabetes carrying the HLA DR3-DQ2 genotype. In a recent meeting, the #FDA acknowledged that #Cpeptide could be used as a surrogate endpoint reasonably likely to predict the clinical benefit of preservation of endogenous insulin production. ➡️This is very important and means that #AcceleratedApproval could be sought based on a demonstration of significant treatment-related benefits on C-peptide levels in response to Diamyd® administration.
