International Pride Month 🌈 International Pride Month is coming to an end. It’s a time for joy but also for raising awareness about the ongoing challenges the LGBTQI+ community faces. Respect and appreciation for all employees are crucial at Boliden: It’s about safeguarding psychological safety and tolerance for every team member. Therefore, we recently launched a new online course focused on LGBTQI+ inclusion in the workplace, available to all employees: “Knowledge gives us a better understanding and awareness of what we can do to become even more inclusive at Boliden, so that everyone feels welcome,” says Anna Yngström, Manager of Talent and Performance. Rävlidmyren: Restoring a Former Mine Site for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Land Use 🌿 At Boliden, we take on a long-term responsibility to restore and manage the land that has been affected by our mining operations. The Rävlidmyren mine reclamation project aims to restore a closed mine by cleaning up the mining waste left behind and securing it in long-term storage to protect the surrounding environment. This initiative, in collaboration with Skanska, focuses on finding smart and efficient solutions for the project’s success. The first two years involved extensive remediation. Now, the project is transitioning to a new phase, aiming to create valuable and sustainable land use that promotes biodiversity and reindeer grazing. #sustainability #biodiversity #responsiblemining

Boliden celebrating 💯 Just south of Gällivare is Sweden’s largest open-pit copper mine. It’s probably also the best equal-opportunities workplace. With just over 900 employees, Boliden Aitik is the largest private employer in Gällivare municipality. Most of the employees live nearby, or at least in Norrbotten County. There are also a good many contractors, as there are almost always major projects underway in the mine. Almost 40 percent of the machine operators here are women, as are more than half of the truck drivers. Aitik has evolved rapidly since its early days. Initially, mining was thought to reach 50 meters deep, but today we’re at 550 meters! From 2006 to 2010, a major investment project doubled our production volume. We operate some of the world’s largest machines, and in 2018, we piloted electric trucks, which was a great success. Safety is paramount, and we’ve made significant strides in that area too. As we look to the future, reclamation plans are in place to make the area a natural part of the landscape once again. #Mining #Innovation #Sustainability #BolidenAitik

Industrikraft: Advancing the Green Transition of Swedish Industries ⚡ Today, we announce the establishment of Industrikraft - a joint venture aimed at fueling the expansion of Sweden’s electricity supply. The initiative is founded by us at Boliden together with Alfa Laval, SKF Group, Stora Enso, and Volvo Group. Industrikraft aims at creating a new industry platform that enforces dialogue and development on electrification, including financing models and investments. Our starting point is that electrification is key to achieving Sweden’s climate goals. Additionally, the expansion of Sweden’s electricity system represents the largest infrastructure investment in the country in over a century. Access to electricity at low price levels is therefore crucial for maintaining the competitiveness of our industries.
